That should be fine, though you might want to bring a tiara. You'll get laughed out of the room if you forget both heels And tiara. It seems most people consider the ballroom dance skirt optional though.

Honestly, the couple times we've gone I think we've seen all manner of athletic clothing. Pants, shorts, t-shirts, fleeces, tanks, everything. Doubt it matters, so long as you can bend comfortably in them.

ODB, what do you mean... You think our climbing gym is good? It is the only game in town, which makes it better than nothing, but it is pretty lame compared to some of the real gyms I've visited. Here's a photo of a really decent place that I went to in Oakland (see attachments).

Looks awesome!

You had to take hand-holds out to make it challenging enough on your first ever try?! Grrrrr...

Ok well I'm impressed.

Thanks!

but I'm not sure we can compare one place to another.. maybe were I went there are more holds and even ignoring a few there are as many as where you were.

What's important is it was fun, AND I now know what you guys are talking about in this tread lol.

As a shirt I once saw said, "Climbing is hard, but it's easier than growing up." Sounds like a great day. Glad you seem to be feeling better.

Looks like a nice place MK!

Check this out. It is run by the same people that run the gym we climbed at. It is a bit far away, but sounds awsome.

Quote:
Upper Limits has something for everyone. We have many different rooms and areas for a total of more than 20,000 square feet of climbing surface making us one of the largest climbing gyms in North America. Our numerous climbs range from beginner climbs to routes that will challenge the most advanced climbers. 110 ft. outdoor wall with toproped and leadable routes in the summer. Lighted for night climbing.
Rappel 120 ft. off the top of the building with an elevator ride to the top.
Massive multi-level bouldering cave and training area.
At 30' tall the main area , includes slab, aretes, roofs, dihedrals, cracks, and the wave wall.
The silos are 65 ft. tall. Three are round and two are uniquely shaped featuring stem and chimney type climbs. Each silo contains eight or nine topropes and all routes are leadable.
Facilities include showers, lockers, water fountain, pop and snack machines, Lounge, rest rooms, world-class pro shop, and complete gear rentals.

In a church eh? that sounds kinda interesting. It's cool that they can re-use old buildings like that.

We are going to shoot for monday the 17th.

when we left, they gave us some 10% off vouchers if we came back in a month. If we did that, then they would check our knots and such, and then certify us for belaying at the gym. If we don't, we either have to take the class again, or stick to the auto belay systems.

CHRIS that's a good deal! Us it's the opposite.. IF we go back to take the belay class we get coupons for various things.

Hey PEOPLE..

are these really the knots I'll need to learn?

They arn't, but its just a CYA thing.

My son, who is 11, learned to tie them pretty quickly, so no, they are not that hard.

It was actually funny seeing my 65lb son spoting his 210lb dad climbing the wall.

Good site!

The ones they made us learn were: the Figure 8 (follow through) for belaying, and the prussic for rappeling.

I think the point of the figure 8 is that it is self tightening, and it's easy to do a quick visual check to spot any errors easilly. Though I'm sure ODB or someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this?

The knots were the easy part. Trusting them from high up was the scary part!! And you seem to have no trouble with that!

Ack! I'm a little unsteady just looking at that picture!

That'd be fun though. But I'd sure have to spend a while talking myself into it. I wonder if we've got that around here anywhere.

That looks like it'd be a nice atmosphere, too.

We went with a couple of friends and thier 19 and 20 year old kids.. the 19 year old girl was just in front of me.. we always had to wait for the person in front of us to be completely across.. but her fun was to a "shake" the cords when I was on them .. had some laughs with that.

BFG.. The walk in the trees or the Indoor climbing? I'm sure you'd be great for both!! I only did beginner climbs.. and the regular routes in the walk in the trees is really for anyone healthy. we'll try one or the other when you come by here

ODB lol .. I actually had written "the only problem is that I don't know what I'll be when I grow up"

and then decided to erase it.. this IS grown up! we have to get out of our heads that it isn't ! That's how we were raised up to think. but Shannon has the RIGHT way of thinking! .. and when we can learn form the young.. there is hope for the futur!
