Default Weight loss from the flu?

So last weekend I was sick. I know, on Labor day weekend. Bah!

At the end of the weekend I hopped on the scale and was down 5 lbs. Now I assume part of that was water weight, but I wasn't really able to keep much down so basically I was starving myself for 2 days.

I'm not a scale junkie, but what are everyone's thoughts on this? I gained some water weight back right away but it got me to wondering: Does the body attack muscle or fat for fuel when you're sick? Or is it an equal loss for both?

Just wondering if anyone has read about it. Any random thoughts to kick in?

Hmmm interesting question! .. I definately havn't read about it, but an educated guess would be that if you are not eating over those two days, the body needs to get energy from somewhere, and the first choice from what i have read is fat stores on the body.. 2 days is not a long enough period for you to lose muscle mass.. Im not 100% on this tho..

Keep in mind mind your metabolism would slow down as well..

Im just kicking it off.. any1 got a more detailed explanation?

My friend had the flu for about a week, and lost 10 lbs. But it comes back pretty easily, so just be careful if you were looking to keep it off.
