Default Why lifelong activity is so important...

I thought you guys might get a kick out of this story. I was recently out of town visiting my grandmother. She is 92 years old, and despite losing almost all her vision to macular degeneration, she still lives independently and cooks all her own meals. The only household chore she needs help with is dusting high places and moving furniture to vacuum behind it.

She never formally exercised, but grew up on a farm and then married a farmer. She has always been active.

We visited a friend in the nursing home, and on the way out we needed to go up one story. There are two elevators in the building, but at each one there was a very long line of nursing home residents in wheelchairs waiting to get on to go back to the upper level.

So my 92 year old grandmother and I took the stairs.

Yeah....those old farmer gals....they're a tough old breed. My grandmother was just like her! tough, stubborn, and independent.

That is great to hear. I didn't get motivated to start exercising for looks, I got motivated because my 62 yo mom-in-law is handicapped by her pains. She is severly limited from not using her body when she was younger. I want to be like your grandmother.

I don't know about out-drinking us, but if every member of this forum showed up at her home she could whip together a meal. Back in the days of the threshing crew her cooking was legendary. She's really an awesome lady in endless ways, and it is so inspiring to see her still active while sadly, many people young enough to be her children are completely debilitated. Thanks for letting me share.
