Has anyone's child experienced growing pains when they were going through growth spurts? Justin has been waking up crying in pain some nights that his legs hurt. It happened last night and it hurts me so much to see him in pain. He has a Doctor's appt. on Friday, and I of course am going to talk to him about it to make sure it is not something more serious as I am just guessing at the cause right now. I was just curious if anyone else experienced this.

My girls get them too mostly around the knees. some light massage and a half dose of tylenol works for them. Also monthly trips to the chiro keeps them inline.

Could it be a potassium or magnesium deficit? At my age I can't claim "growing pains" and a couple of years ago I didn't understand my wife's complaints about night leg cramps. Then..one night one of my calves was in a vise...a banana helped, in a day or two.

Tracy, what did the doctor say?

My son, now 3 years 8 months, started getting them once per week since the last 2 weeks. It is not in the middle of the night though but surely in the middle of some activity like jumping, running.. He limps for next 2 days. I have a muscle relaxant for external application and a medicine "Combiflam".

Hope Justin gets well.

My son, now 11, has had "growing pains" off and on in his legs since he was around 6. Most the time not serious but usually at night. Fact is..that's the only time he is still enough to notice.

We never wen to a doctor..we gave him liquid tylenol or advil to ease it and he seemed pretty happy with that. He is developing fine and it hasn't slowed him down a bit. So I haven't concerned myself.

Not to say you shouldn't see a doctor...especially if it keeps on night after night. It usually comes and goes with my boy.

Oh...and his mother and I experience more pain as he grows too. Pretty sure there's no cure
