Well I guess this is sort of a general health question.

For the past 2 weeks, my lower eye lid on my right eye has been twitching pretty much regularly every day. It’s severe enough that it can be easily noticed by somebody I am having a conversation with. This isn’t the first time I’ve had muscle twitches, and I’m not worried about it, it’s just annoying. But having this one go on for so long, I realized that I have no idea what causes a muscle to twitch in this way.

So, for my own education more then anything, does anybody know what causes a small muscle twitch like this? My first guess is of course stress, but I haven’t been overly stressed at all lately. I know for example that muscle cramps can often be caused by dehydration and low magnesium and calcium levels. So I was wondering if small repeating twitches like this were similar? Thanks. I've had similar twitches in my eyelid. Stress is a factor, and I've found that getting sufficient sleep usually helps.

Sorry, that's about the extent of my info on the topic.

Yes, stress can cause the twitching and dehydration is a factor same as muscle cramps.

Like RB said, make sure you're getting plenty of sleep and keeping hydrated. Try something to destress too, you need an outlet.

Overall I wouldn't worry about the twitching, it's not causing any harm to your body.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm definitely not dehydrated, and I have been getting my usual 7-8 hours of sleep every night. I haven't been any more stressed then usual (at least I don't think I have been), I was just on vacation over labor day weekend.

I get twitches in my upper left quad as well, but they are not very severe so I hardly ever notice them. I'm definitely not worried about it, it's just annoying. I really just posted this so I could learn more about the causes.

Sorry for the very late reply but I have the same thing but with my left eye lid.

Doctor said (after some research) that i had a hemifacial spasm. Its a spasm cause by the nerve that supplys the face muscles.

It does go away with time.

If your eye still twitches at night then i would be guessing thats what you have. If it doesn't then stress and those other things are more likely the cause.

I had the same thing in the spring despite a new job that paid better and a 2 week vacation. Over the course of a weekend it went away. Bizarre. I eased up on the coffee during that time too.

My left eyelid is twitching right now. I think mine is stress related.

I had that for about 2 months and it wouldn't go away. Silly doctor prescribed some kind of mild anti-anxiety crap that I never took. After the duration it went away I came across a woman in the gym and she was talking about how she had this terrible infection in her cheek and how her eye lid was twitching for a long time and it turned out to be a sinus infection. It was so bad she was put into the hospital for observation. Coincidently, (but not knowing until later) I had a sinus infection during this time.

Just something to keep an eye on. (No pun intended haha)

I have that from time to time. A doc in France once gave me some Magnesium+B6, and it helped.
