Im new here so this is my question. As of nov 2004 to march 2005 I bulked on 13pounds.In march I started cutting. I would add 2 days of cardo & I would cut back on my calories. Just to to give you more info on me when I was bulking I was taking in 3000 calories a day now im taking in 2500 a day. Now I have lost 10 pounds & down to 170 but Im just as strong as I was at 180. Im 6"0 170 at 12%bodyfat do you think If I get down to 165 I would be at 10%bodyfat? Thanks

First of all, welcome to the board.

Well, 170 lbs X .12 (BF) = 149.6 lbs LBM and 20.4 lbs fat
165 lbs X .10 = 148.5 lbs LBM and 16.5 lbs fat.

If you do it right, you are losing 1 lb LBM and 4 lbs. fat in your scenario. Of course, the trick is to spare the muscle and lose the fat. If you do it wrong, you could very well lose 5 lbs. of muscle - not a desirable scenario. It will get harder and harder the less fat you have to get rid of. What worked before may not continue to work as effectively going forward. So read up on this board and shake things up in your routine and your diet and you might be more successful than otherwise.

Body part measurements are also a good way to monitor your effectiveness in doing this, along with your BF% assessments.

You said you were 170 lbs @ 12% BF. That means to determine how much of that 170 is fat lbs, you take

170 times 12% (i.e. 0.12) to get 20.4 lbs of fat.

170 lbs - 20.4 fat lbs = 149.6 lean pounds of bone muscle connective tissue and water (LBM)

Is that more clear?
