Indeed it is the rainy, cold, icey, generally crappy time of the year for a lot of the world. Generally around this time when allergies flair up and sinus infections, colds, etc start to rise. So what can we do to prevent these things and keep on trucking through our routines without having to take unfortunate breaks and maybe lose muscle and/or strength? Well I wish I would have realised this before because I just came down with a cold 2 days ago and now I have to cool it from the gym for probably a week. I do know what I did wrong although.

After trying a waterbury routine, specifically strengh-focused mesocycle, the frequency of cns directed training was too much for my body and I had to take a week off. Summing it up to the fact I had been training for 3 months at that point, I went back to the same program after a weeks rest, I burnt out again in a week and a half and switched back to r,r,and d 2.0 which I had used before for a long period of time without burn out. I'm still staggering hoping the burn out will fade away and I won't have to take anymore time off when BAM I wake up in the middle of the night eyes watering, face is on fire, can't breathe through nose type action, needless to say I haven't slept much since.

Little reminder to everyone about this time of year, really keep an eye on over-doing it in the gym, I'm sure my over-doing it had a little to do with catching this cold as my immunities were problem bottomed out as I was on the overtrained side. And I am using good nutrition plus nutrition supplements on top of that and still got this nasty cold. Oh well live and learn. Good luck guys, I hope for a speedy recovery. ~ Rev

There are apparently over 100+ different strains of cold virus. Once you get one and recover, your body has generated an immunity against it. Oftentimes, you will see new elementary school teachers getting cold after cold in their first year of teaching the little ones - then they seem immune. This is the reason.

Winter sees the frequency of colds increase, but it has nothing to do with cold temperatures. Cold temps are actually a deterrent to the cold virus, but people catch more colds in the winter because they are indoors more and in close proximity to other people.

The one most important thing you can do to try to prevent colds is to wash your hands frequently. Wash them after you go out, especially wash them after you go to the gym to lift! Try to avoid touching your hands to your eyes or nose or mouth when outside. If this seems too 'Howard Hughes' for you, then understand that your chances of catching the cold virus will increase, unless, of course, you are like Howard Hughes and have locked yourself up in a room and have no human interaction. Then you're mostly safe, albeit insane.

For some reason I always correlated winter and wet weather to influenza and other viruses. I see it really has no direct impact now thanks Kaiser I'll take your tips.

We can thank our mothers for that. "Don't go out without your hat and gloves or you will catch a cold!" It was a scare tactic the worked.
