Hi everyone, I posted my introduction on here a couple days ago. I'm in the situation where what I have done in the past hasn't worked, so I'm hoping for some help. I thought I might post a few pics of my sorry state and hope for suggestions from everyone as to what I should do to get started.I'm not looking to get "huge" or bulky, i don't think my body's made like that anyway, not exactly an athletic physique. I would just like to get toned and lose the belly. i'm open to for any advice possible based on what you see, starting from scratch. I'm 5'8", about 155, male, 32 YO. please let me know what other info would be helpful to getting started.
Those of you with weak stomachs better avert your eyes now...
(God, I don't even know anyone here, and it's still hard to show this)
last chance.....
ok, here they come...
So seriously, where to start? Thank you everyone, I'm really committed to making this work. I just need some guidance.
You are making yourself accountable by forcing yourself to have to redeem yourself after showing everyone your self in sad shape. When you show a pic of yourself in bad shape, you are throwing down the gauntlet, announcing your intention to the community and to the Universe. That's what I meant. Glad to have you hear. Hope you start a training log so we can track your progress.
That beer belly thing is scary isn't it? I was getting mine (female, started after age 40)...too much food and wine...a scary look once you know how dangerous it is. It's also slack muscles. As you build up your muscles throughout your body, your entire posture will change and that makes a big change.
I don't know if you've started your log, but that will help a lot too.
Oh, another thing you might enjoy reading (or listening to on Podcasts.) Go to www.thefitcast.com and look up the blog posts on "destination abs." It might give you some ideas and motivation.
Good luck. You'll be fine and looking hot in no time at all.
welcome abord my good man, and well done on having the nads to post the pictures.
i am new to the forum also, "Hello all"
but have been training for quite a while now so i do not really have any fitness goals other than maintaining where i am.
congrats also on taking the step towards a healther lifestyle, once you get wrapped up in it you will never look back i promise.
- so to get "started" you say you have done some stuff in the past but it has not worked? what have you done? and for how long did you do it.
it can take some time before you start seeing any major changes, but if you put in the effort it will come.
what kind of things do you like, are you a gym memebr, do you have a home gym, do you run etc... etc.. or are you an obsolute beginner?
a little more info will help us point you in the right direction. if there is something you love to do say cycling for example, that would be a good way to incorporate a regular activity that you enjoy, and then it does not feel like such a chore.
give your self a goal also - not " i want to get fit" or " i want to lose weight"
they are blanket responses, you need to say " i am going to lose 5 kilos by XYZ date"
set a goal and work your arse off to get there, then when you do that set another goal, then another and before you know it you will be posting back pictures of your achevements and what a fantastic feeling that is!
hit us back with some stuff you like and a goal and lets see what we can do.
oh and i noticed your getting a body fat thing and a scale,
try not to focus your success on these 2 things, they are not really a good measure of sucuess in my opionon
If you're looking for a good, general, all-around workout, a lot of people here are doing/have done NROL; The New Rules of Lifting. Good information for all levels, and workouts all laid out.
I'm sure you've heard that fat loss is 80% (or more) diet? True. Check out the Fatloss Troubleshoot forum, too.
You look like a shorter version of me 6 months ago.
You're very lucky to have found this forum where people follow science not BS marketing.
As for your genetics check out Banderbe's blog. He is the reason I have purchased several of Lyle McDonald's books. You, me, and him all share the same genetics.
When I started I was about the same weight as you, (we are about the same height too). Here are some pics of what I did in 6 months. Just lift hard and eat right and you can accomplish anything you want!
