She does look terrific! I remember you saying she lost a significant amount of weight when she started training with you. Do you mind repeating a summary of her fitness journey including how long it took her to get into competition shape? Congratulations to her for getting into competition shape!!!

Thanks ya'll!

She was previously lifting like an athlete but was very overly fat. After seeing me change other people she decided to try out my techniques. She started in January but was not lifting hard, just going through the motions, and we were eating out a lot and such. By the end of June she was down from 30% to 23%. Not a great transformation at that point, but she was still learning to lift with intensity and still learning meal prep. Everything we did was based on her Biosignature Modulation profile. No cardio, only lifting.

Her friend Rachel Cammon got her pro card that August I believe, and was telling Brianna about it. Well, the competitive spirit got ahold of her and she went with it. In mid-August she was still in the low 160's and 23% and she started training hard. Twice a day training 3 days out of 5. We dropped the two a day training about 5 weeks ago and added sprints and intervals. She stepped on stage 11.5% or so and now she's about 11% for the competition tomorrow.

I would like to get her down to about 10%, so that's our goal after a little bit of time off.

Any other questions?

Default Do tell...

Hola Perrogrande

I am hoping to compete in my first competition next year (Fitness/Muscle Model) and I don't have a clue how to go about figuring out what I'm supposed to be eating, how I determine what my body needs as I prepare (more carbs, less protein, etc.) and if I'm on the right track with my workouts. Judging from what you've done with your girlfriend, I'm thinking you might have some pointers. I'm actually more concerned with the nutrition, as I'm pretty happy with what my trainer is doing with me.

I know I need to work with a nutritionist (highly recommended by my girl Jennifer..thanks!), but hell if I even know how to select one!

The last place you need to go for nutrition for competition is a nutritionist. Training Brianna for comp and competing myself has reinforced my belief that nutritionists are trained completely wrong and about 20 years behind the times. Brianna's journey to leanness was MUCH easier than you would ever imagine and was more about common sense than textbook bullshit.

It's funny that I have interviewed many fitness and figure competitors and they all hate their diets and they all go nuts post competition with eating bad stuff. Brianna did not do any of that, and neither do I post comp. We drink wine up until the contests and we eat many things that are very enjoyable and flavorful up to a few days out from comp.

We are going to write a book about going from 30% to 11.5% and we are going to make it very practical. I think that us both writing it and putting my perspective as a coach and her perspective as the competitor would be an innovative and inspiring approach to dieting that has not been done before.

Do you all think it would be a good project?

It was a lot of hard work, but much less than you think. We work smart and hard in our house and there are a lot of sacrifices, but we emphasize SMART over hard. Brianna came up with a lot of awesome recipes that are easy to make with very few ingredients and can be made in large batches. And the recipes are AWESOME and easy to eat all of the time. They are very flavorful. We have come up with stuff for different metabolic types so that the right people are eating the right foods.

I would be very interested in reading a book like this. Let us know if you end up doing the project as I know it would be popular.

Not if you tell people to train twice a day and do sprints.

Do you have any two piece pics? She doesnt look 11% in any of those pics.

Anyway, kudos on her transformation and for you training her. One of the things that drove me nuts about training girls for figure is the sheer nuttiness one has to deal with as you get closer to comp time.
