Default A squat picture from my latest meet

I've only been able to track down one picture. It is just before the descent on a 213.5kg Squat. New national sub junior(under 18) record! See my log for a detailed meet report.

Compare the elbow position to that in my first meet:

It makes a huge difference, had no sticking points in any of my squats this time. Elbows under is the key!

I always seem to hit the rack when walking out, maybe I'll start squatting "Racks In", my grip is narrow enough to fit in there still anyway hah!

Look at the guy on the left of that video. He's so prepared-looking. He's like,
"I'M READY, I'M READY! I GOT IT! I'M READY, I GOT IT! LET'S SQUAT, I'M READY! I GOT IT! I'm doing a good job, I'm doing a really good job, I am on that bar like white on rice, I'm doing a good job."

hehehe

He's the guy that was lifting the bar too high back into the racks, and it was annoying me, and I always looked to his side after every attempt lol!

Yeah I had shit ass spotters for that comp, lucky I didn't miss a lift. I don't even know who those guys are, they don't even look like lifters lol, the guy behind me in that video is a fucking triathlete!

Spotters were better this time, I had a training partner spotting me(the guy on the left of the picture, on my right side).

I stumbled in, too. (Not drunk, just old and infirm.)

Very cool, Simon. Good for you.

You would have been good for another 10 kg with a bit wider stance, though.

I was just picking up on what Mindpower said earlier. But what do I know? I'm not pulling it.

Nice squat Simon!

Looks great, really only one suggestion. Now that you are lifting with a tight back (keeping elbows locked under the bar), try putting your thumbs on top of the bar. By that I mean to put the thumb on top of the bar with the other fingers. See if it makes a difference in how tight you feel.

BTW, who wraps your knees for you?

My coach squats like this, but that's just from flexibility issues and injuries he has. I've tried it and didn't like it, I like to have a good grip on the bar. I think I'd only squat like that to alleviate pressure on my joints if I end up all injured in a few years time

My coach wraps my knees for me.

You need longer wraps or you need your wraps spread out more.

Do me a favor, squat for a few sessions with your thumb on the top of the bar and see if it tightens up your back a bit.

Max legal length wraps haha...

I think spreading them out much more just cuts of circulation, it's covering the entire joint. Although they do look like they aren't wrapped as high as usual, I usually like them wrapped a bit higher up. They did the trick that time though. Wrapping them higher would also sacrifice the amount of wrap thickness around the knee too hrmmm.

My coach said he used to wrap much higher(and lower), but found it didn't make it any better, and would just cut off circulation more.
