Question

Hello all,
I am just starting to lift. I am looking for increase in muscle to help with insulin resistance. I am a insulin dependent type 2 diabetic in resonable health ( 54 ). I hike in the mountains and have good wind and leg power.
My recent workouts have been visited by mild hypos after about an hour. I usually stop, check blood sugar and eat a few carbs and finish the last 45 minutes. About two hours later the hypos start in again and I eat more carbs and check bs. Morning readings are starting to climb 30 t0 40 points high. I am on a sliding scale for insulin (poorman's pump) which means fast acting insulin for meals (bolus) and slow acting insulin for background insulin (basil). Are there any experianced diabetics around for info. Thanks in advance.
Al.

Osage,
what TYPE of carbs do you consume before your workout. It's my understanding that diabetics should stay away from simple carbs such as breads and pasta because your body can't control the sudden peak in blood sugar. (If you have a SUDDEN peak in blood sugar you are going to have a SUDDEN fall in blood sugar as well)
Eat more complex carbs (fruit and veggies), take in essential fatty acids (Udo's oil is a good one, also from fresh water fish) and chromium pic; both of which have been shown to control blood sugar.

Cool

yes, do at least 45min of cardio a day; walking, running, cycling. weights are great, but for us diabetics, cardio should be the number one priority.
