Default Does anyone train out of their home?

I've been training in my home studio for about 6 months and was wondering if anyone else has taken this route?
Lately, I've been thinking of taking down my shingle though.
Would love to hear how you're doing. The pros? The cons?

I wouldn't want to train at my home. My home is my oasis, my escape from my professional life. I would never be able to relax in my own home, which would suck.

Plus, I think it would be hard to be take too seriously. The only exception to this rule would be Bill Hartman, who trained out of his basement studio very successfully for many years before opening his very own facility, but he's a fitness diety so the rules don't apply.

I don't train out of my home due to some of the reasons that JP listed. I do however train clients in their own homes. I mainly teach calisthenics, so I can throw an excercise ball in my trunk, and the only other thing I need is my planner to schedule future workouts. I try to teach clients that they can train anywhere with calisthenics (gym, home, playground equipment, traveling etc.), so training in their home gives them a good example. I take precautions such as a digital sound recorder when training a client of the opposite sex in order to protect against any accusations of sexual harassment or the like.

That's a good idea on recording the sessions! Thanks.

Hi there,
it's been a while since i have visited this forum. Lots of great stuff.

I used to train in my own home (apartment) and I hated it. I knew it was for short term while getting my studio finished but like JP said, it was hard to have the space mixed with work and home. Not to mention my husband really got annoyed when I would tell him that he had to go for a walk/stay in the bedroom while I trained a client. Not ideal. It was doable for 6 months or so with only 5 clients per week.

And it just felt unprofessional and too "intimate". I didn't really want these people in my space seeing my pictures on the walls, etc.

Now I train a few people in their homes but these are long term clients. I won't take any more at home training clients.

If you have an at home studio, perhaps it better. I was training people in my living room.

Good luck!

2 things: 1. Cabin Fever and 2. it's lonely

I like getting out of the house and going to the gym. I like the atmosphere and the people and the whole idea of GOING there doing my training and then leaving again. The thought of training at home is a bit depressing - especially if you've seen the size of my house lol
