Quaribc, I did serve as a testing official and as an "SME" (subject matter expert) who helped re-write the test a few years back, but not anymore. I walked out of all that last fall and had a pretty major career change. I still train a little on the side but for the most part I am not working in that capacity career-wise anymore.
Your goal sounds pretty decent though, FWIW. Sounds like you have a good path laid before you. Obviously the CSCS is the best cert you can get (IMHO). NFPT is a good start though. It will get you in most facilities and they are accredited.
It is really hard to say how long you will need to study to pass the test. Some people study it for months and still fail, some people study it for a week and scorch it. Depends on your current background/experience and retention ability. Don't underestimate the test though.
Most of what's on the test is in the manual you downloaded. There are, however, questions that are not in the manual that are just things you are expected to thoroughly understand, such as anatomy. Get a book that has the skeleton and muscles and make sure you know it. Also go to
www.ExRx.net to learn your synergists and stabilizers and such. It's probably one of the best resources on the net. It is your friend!
