Default Fitness Booth at Festival

Hi guys! First id like to say hello and this looks like a great site. Just stumbled upon it!

Im opening a fitness business in florida and im thinking of setting up a booth at a local festival. I have a few ideas. I would say i need a sign with my logo, some business cards, and some literature of some type. I also thought of doing bioimpedence body fat testing (even though this is not very accurate at all) I thought it might generate some buzz.

Anyway does anyone have any other ideas on some things you could do at a booth to get peoples information, get their attention and add some contacts? Any activities besides the bioimpedence? I have tshirts with my logo and am in the process of getting business cards. I also am writing up some newsletters with valuable fitness info. Any help appreciated. Ideas are more than welcome!

Will it just be you manning the booth? If so I wouldn't waste my time with the body fat thing. You want to reach the most people in the shortest time. I'd suggest putting together a binder of your services which includes testimonials and maybe some before/after pics (make sure you have permission). Maybe hand out an article with your information included at the end.

However, if you have someone who can focus on the body fat thing I would also offer blood pressure. The reason I say only to do this if you have someone else is because you don't want to lose 5 prospect while you're dealing with just one. Broaden your reach. Maybe a powerpoint if you can think of something to put on it....

Very good point. I THINK i will have one of my friends there, she just has to get off work. I agree and will only do the bf thing if i have another person working the booth with me.

The before and after pics are a great idea, i have some on my computer and will work that into my materials. I will also do the article thing.

Any ideas welcome if you guys can think of other things.

No problem. You should take a look at Jim Labadie's stuff. What you want to do at things like this is reach the most amount of people while doing the least work. And now I'm not talking about putting out a shotty article, but spending 2 hours writing a short article or a list of "5 Things You Can Do at Your Desk to make you healthier" type of deal will allow you to reach a broader audience then say standing there with one person and talking to them about their bf%.

Maybe something you could do is hand out invites to a complimentary bootcamp class you'll hold the following weekend. Tell them to invite their friends/family. The more people you reach, the greater chance you have of landing new clients.

Very good ideas. I really want to do a boot camp type deal at the lake by my condo, but there is already a pretty big one going on. I might be able to start my own...i just dont know.

I will do that about the article. I have several on my computer that will work nicely. I'll be sure to include my contact info at the end.

What don't you know? Sure the other person may be established, but who's to say your bootcamp wouldn't be more successful. While it may not be a good idea to try to steal his/her clients or run it at the same time, maybe you do a bootcamp geared towards a specific group...stay at home moms, parents/kids after school activity, brides to be, etc.

What exactly does a month free mean? Make sure that this is well defined. You don't want to say you get a month free and have the person think it's 4 sessions a week or something. I think it's better to give out a specific number of sessions (8 for 4 weeks)...

I feel like if you give it to everyone people will make the appointment and not keep it, because they got it for free, but this could also go for the other free sessions as well. When people get 'free' sessions I've learned that they tend to abuse them...

When I ran a small business a booth at the country fair, and at home and garden shows was about the best advertising I did. I never generated much business with free offers, and would not offer anything costly in time or resources if I were to do it again.

Very good points. Im getting more and more aggressive with my marketing but i may still be a little quick to push aside ideas for fear of stepping on toes. I'm doing well getting over this, but it takes time. I will probably gear it towards a particular niche. I dont think this camp does afternoon sessions, so maybe that could be an option.

Yeah very true, i meant 4 free sessions, one a week. I will give out a specific number if i go this route.

I hear pros and cons about free sessions. Maybe if the person "won" the free sessions, and you called them up with a congratulatory phone call, they would be more inclined to keep the appointment.

What do you recommend for gathering information( phone, addy, email, ect.)? Lead boxes or just have people fill out forms or maybe sign up for a free newsletter?

Do you put out a newsletter? Personally I would just ask people who are interested in a free session to sign up on whatever form you want to have, but instead of doing a full hour session (you're still in the business of making money) cut it down to 40/45 minutes. In the time it would take you to do 2 free sessions you would be doing 3. And never bump current clients for a free session, no matter how bad they ask.

Thanks Keith, very helpful. I just get information overload sometimes from studying all this marketing. I just wrote my first issue of a newsletter so will give out a sample and get people to sign up to get it monthly, should get me some contacts. Im just starting so every contact helps. I will cut the sessions down and only give 4 total @ about 30-40 minutes each. I sell 30 minute slots so thats the ones i will give away.

Great ideas - In addition to your business card, one thing that works really well for me is my brochure. Can't underestimate this - Having a brochure with all the services your offer, some nice looking pictures, your name, and credentials, and your website goes a LONG way.

Something of value that they can take home and continue to read more about your services -
