Default cscs vs cpt (nasm)

I would like to know which certification would help me more in creating a program for competitive surfing? It seems that Nasm cpt has more functional and multi join exercises than CSCS and I think that's what I need for surfing. Anyone could help?

Here is a copy and paste of a panel of experts that talked about this:

"Aside from the prominent letters after a strength coach's name, where does the line cross between the CSCS and the Personal Trainer (CPT)? What are the major differences between the two professional roles?"

Thank you John! But, do you know if the CSCS has a functional and core training approach like NASM?

NSCA has the CSCS and CPT certification. I think the NSCA-CPT deals more with "core and functional" than the CSCS. The CSCS handles more athletic settings and training conditions conducive to performance. NASM is of a joint-to-joint approach to training relying heavily on their OPT model (which you are probably referring to as functional).

There may be some threads on here that we discuss the pro's and con's of each organization that may be helpful. You may want to do a "advanced search" on here or maybe someone will pop in to guide you. You can always visit the NSCA website and find out what the curriculum for each cert entails.

A large component of surfing is conditioning, so don't discount that at the expense of unstable surface training. Anyone at the stage of competing obviously has the ability to pop up, turn, and do most any maneuver, therefore I think the role of unstable or core training is greatly overhyped.

Where alot of people fail, even ASP pros, is often conditioning and strength. Guys get tired at the end of their heat which leads to the inability to get priority on a wave, to get positioned, and to execute moves. They don't fail because they didn't spend enough time on a bosu.

So, I would contend that getting as knowledgable as you can on strength and conditioning programming would be more valuable therefore favor the NSCA.

Be sure to check out the work of Jamo Nezzar - you may even want to drop him an email and get his opinion - he's a former IFBB pro that has created a specialty training surfers.
