Question Salary Information

My wife has been recently offered the position of Aeorbics Director for a local fitness facility with salary negotiations forthcoming. She does not have a good handle on what figure to go in with when the discussion takes place. Does anyone have an idea of what the average salary for this type of position is currently? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It really does depend on her experience. How large is the facility and how involved is the job? Will she be full time?

I pay my instructors $15 to $20 per class. My facility is pretty small so I don't really warrant one.

Obviously depends on the location. But generally dont expect more than 25,000 annually.

There are multiple web sites with salary comparison information. Not sure if "aerobics instructor" is on there but it's worth a shot.

If all else fails see if Lost Dog can advise you. I hear he's big into that now!

The facility is pretty small currently, but the owner has plans to open another location. The director's position would cover both.

The position is part-time for now...possibly becoming full-time sometime in the near future.

Does the group fitness (my preferred term) department generate any revenues for the business?

She would have to develop the group fitness program as one does not currently exist. My guess is it will become a revenue stream once it gets up and running.

I would actually recommend she get in touch with someone from BTS. They are one of the best group fitness companies in the country (if not THE best). They could help her figure out how to develop that department, and possibly recommend how much she should be paid, and suggest a bonus structure that would give her incentive to perform at a higher level, grow the business, and then provide training to her and subsequently any staff she would hire. It's good because it is pretty much plug-n-play too, so no reinventing the wheel. They have everything, including Spin.

Or Les Mills...we have those programs at my gym...I currently teach 2 programs and love it. BTS and Les Mills split up a few years ago so they are pretty similar.
