Hello,
I have been a member of another Personal Trainer group for quite a while but it isn't very active and I have a hard time getting answers to questions on there. I found this site and it appears that all of you share great information.
About me...My name is Cristin and I have my personal
training and group fitness certifications. However, shortly after
receiving them, I became pregnant and moved back to the US from
Germany. As a result of these 2 events, I have yet to actually get
any real experience working in fitness. I did teach a few prenatal
and circuit classes but that is all. I am really much more
interested in personal training though.
I am looking for advice on how to get started but my situation is
different than most people who ask about this. I have recently moved
back to my hometown but I will only be here for about 9-10 months.
My frequent moves are due to my husband being in the Army. He is
currently deployed which also makes me a full-time stay at home mom
to our baby girl. I am very eager to get my feet wet with training
somehow but my hometown is tiny! There is only one gym in the area and I went to meet the owner but he is NOT professional at all and not the type of person I would want to work for. Plus, his wife does all the training there and he isn't interested in using anyone else. The fitness center I actually go to is in a neighboring county. It also has only 1 trainer and the owner isn't interested in having more right now.
It seems as though the only option I may be left with is doing some in-home training. I am apprehensive about that since I don't have any true experience. I also won't be able to establish a real 'business' since I'll move again around the end of the year. How would you recommend that I proceed? Also, if I were to do some in-home/on location training, what would be the lowest rate you would recommend charging? I don't need the money so at this point, getting experience is more important than what I earn.
I would greatly appreciate any and all advice that you can share with me. Thanks!
Cristin

You'd be surprised. You'd probably actually get more clients charging prices on the higher it. People will value your time and service if you charge more than the majority of trainers in your area. I'd go about 25% than your area average. For groups of 3-6 people per workout we charge $49 per person per session, the average group trainer in our area charges $25... so we're pretty much double that

You'll automatically be positioned as better because your prices higher.

At least that's been my experience
