Default Parks

For those with outdoor bootcamps, how much do you all pay to use park facilities such as fields?

Reason I asked is because at my parks and rec site I see the following:

Quote:
  1. The weekly fee for one of the designated "camp/clinic" parks (or other approved local park with more than one field) will be $150 in addition to $150 refundable security deposit, payable at the time the permit is issued.
  2. All camp operators will be charged 10% of their gross receipts, payable prior to the start of its first session.
  3. A surcharge of $10.00 per camper/per session will be applied and payable by the start of the first session.
Thats a shit load of my revenues. Just wondering if anyone has ideas on getting a free space.

I've never heard of anything that expensive. Shit, at that rate you'd be better off bringing them to a gym that charges a few $ per person.

Do you have any county parks nearby?

Well that sounds like a complete rip off. Look around to other local parks sometimes what is the deal for one will be totally different from another. I found that to be the case with where I live. Also check with local churches. Sometime they will let you use their parking lots for a 5-10% donation of camp proceeds to the church. I would stick with smaller churches to avoid excess beurocracy. Makes getting set up quicker and more effecient.

I don't pay anything to use local parks, but they are public. THere are some state parks with campgrounds nearby, but they only charge if you're a camper.

The one I use has trails all through it, and a nice sprinting hill, and a play ground, a baseball diamond with a big open flat field, and a large grassy area with a light in the middle of it which is fortunately on at 5:30 am in the winter months so I can see. We've got 'em all over the place around here. I can't imagine a park wanting to charge people to want to use it for what it was designed for... public recreation!

In my area, there are different types of communities. Some have associations and some don't. My local one does, and the parks are managed by a company, not the city. These parks charge fees for some things.

The city next door is older and things are more like the traditional "public parks." So, check around with the cities and communities to see how they differ.

Yeah I thought it was fucked up too. They charge to reserve times because apparently theres high demand for use.

Im going to call them and see if thats really the way it is. Otherwise, Im going somewhere else.

The park I was going to originally use i asked for permission to be in there doing my thing. They said it was fine and if I wanted a designated space i could rent a field for $150 a week. I said I did not need a designated space and if I could bring my campers over and we could workout. She said it was fine. Then a few days later she calls and said if we wanted to work out anywher in the park we had to pay a "reservation fee" just to be ANYWHERE in the park. So i checked with another public park and they said it was fine and there was no charge. So some people are just opportunist and want to cash in on any success you might be having. Watch your back!
