Advice on opening a vitamin/supplement store?
Does anyone have any expeience with operating a vitamin/supplement store? Not a chain store, but their own business. The closest GNC type store in my area is about an hour away. I'm just wondering how profitable a place like that might be.

Vitamin/Supplement store
Hi! Maxx,
I assume you you are a personal trainer.
I have sports and nutrition store on the internet. I deal with Nutrilite supplements. They are the first organic supplements manufacturer in America and still they are the no.1 in the world. You can offer great and quality products for your clients and good profit margin. We can discuss more details on how to set up and operate on your own.
Regards

Sounds like network marketed crap to me. Even if it's not crap, it's not specifically what he was talking about. He's talking about carrying many name brands (mainstream brands), like Cytosport, Champion, etc.
Maxx, supplements are a decent profit center for my club, but not enough to warrant setting up a seperate shop.
I can connect you with my distributors. I get really good rates. Just make sure you keep up with your inventory and maintain the ability to track it as a profit center if you do it from your gym. Keep up with your own consumption too.
I have a couple of ways I do this from my gym. Both are profitable. One is just ordering stuff that I know will sell really well. The other thing I do is twice a month I make a bulk order on what we call our "discount supplement program" where our customers fill out order forms directly from our catelogue, and we make custom orders. Since we are buying so much it allows us to get the good prices, the customer gets what they want, and they are paying 10 to 15% off retail prices, so they're happy.

So does his/her other post in the water filter thread in the DNS forum. I did some drilling, here is the clue:
Quote:
To order an eSpring® unit if you are not a registered Quixtar IBO, Member or Client):
1. Follow the instructions for contacting a Quixtar Independent Business Owner (IBO) in your area, below.

So, basically, if you're not selling/distributing/working for them, you need to find someone that is.

There's a company called One Stop Nutrition that seems to install a shop next to every location of the gym chain I work for. They seem to do pretty well with that setup, since they're locating in places where people that are concerned about health and nutrition are congregating.

Like I said... 'Independent business owner" is code for "on the side I sell network marketed products, which is why my friends have stopped calling."
