Being in college is a great place to "get your hand's wet". I agree the cert doesn't make the trainer. If you just want to get your foot in the door get an ACE cert.
The most prominent certs (IMO): NSCA, ASCM, NASM............ACE
I'm sure your college offers strength and conditioning internships, volunteer assistance, and paying positions.
I would definitely get a class or two in marketing. This biz is flooded with trainers. Doesn't necessarily matter how "good" you are. I've seen educated smart guys/gals starve because of the lack of marketing skills.
The biz is 30% know how and 70% marketing (IMO)
