Default Personal Trainer
What is the best way to become a personal trainer. I would like to take a certication test, but which one is the best. A friend of mind just took a test and got his personal training certification. Is this the best way to go. I am a college student and would like to get certified over a break(winter or summer). Any suggestions???

My suggestion is to learn how to train people by educating yourself and working with others that are good at what they do before you worry about anything else.

Certifications do not teach you how to train nor guarantee that you know what you're doing. Only time and experience can do that.

Being in college is a great place to "get your hand's wet". I agree the cert doesn't make the trainer. If you just want to get your foot in the door get an ACE cert.

The most prominent certs (IMO): NSCA, ASCM, NASM............ACE

I'm sure your college offers strength and conditioning internships, volunteer assistance, and paying positions.

I would definitely get a class or two in marketing. This biz is flooded with trainers. Doesn't necessarily matter how "good" you are. I've seen educated smart guys/gals starve because of the lack of marketing skills.

The biz is 30% know how and 70% marketing (IMO)

I am studying Excerise Science @ Sacred Heart. But i want to become and atheltic trainer for next summer, as a job.
