Default NSCA-CPT

Hi-

I was wondering if you guys could give me any advice on how I should go about studying for the NSCA-CPT exam. I have a BA in exercise science and was wondering if I need to buy all the materials needed to study. I just ordered the practice test because I want to see how much I will need to study. However, I was wondering if anyone here can tell me how difficult the exam is, and if I need to buy all the other study materials besides the Essentials of personal training textbook. I will also be getting my CSCS eventually, but I needed to sign up for a CPT exam to start working at a gym. So far I have bought a practice exam and the textbook. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you do pretty well on the practice exam, then just studying Essentials is probably going to be enough. I thought the study guide was useless--bascially it said to read a chapter and write down what you'd learned. If you know how to study, you don't need that workbook. If the practice exam reveals areas where your knowledge is lacking, then you can hunt up extra info on those topics in particular. With your exercise science background, you're probably pretty much up to speed.

I agree!! The practice exams were great because they would help you focus on where you were deficient. And in "correcting" the exam, they tell you where to look for the answer (ie chaper and page in the Essentials text) ...

That is what I was planning. However, I was still thinking of ordering the material because it may be useful in the future. Also, I will be taking the CSCS in the future.

Thanks

Check your local libraries. I found both the Essentials of Personal Training and Essentials of Strength and Conditioning at my library.

Yeah, you can do that, but it's a great book to own. I use my copy as a reference book now and I'm glad I own it.

Galya just took the test and I think she went through the CD's as part of her study. You might ask her what she thought of them.

Thanks for the advice, but I already own both books. One of the books was used in my Fitness evaluation class in college because it was taught by a professor who had her CSCS
