Default Career Options

I'm in my final year of Sport and Exercise Science at University here so contemplating where too from here.

Getting married next year and want to start a family and buy a house those kind of things over the next 5 years.

Option 1: find a gym and work as a personal trainer, get clients and get results and get known

Option 2: do a Graduate diploma of education and be a science and PE teacher (while working will also start a masters in Strength and conditioning which is external), train school teams and slowly start working with regional teams then maybe state and get known like that.

Option 3: Do a grad dip in Clinical Exercise physiology which allows to work in muscleoskeltal, neurological and cardiac rehab (after doing placement at a rehab place I don't think i have the patients for this)

Long term plan would be to train athletes (preferrable high level if not elite) and make a living off that.

Not sure on how to get a personal training job. They don't seem to be advertised so might have to just door knock gyms.

Can anyone see a particuly good way to go. Tossing up so many thoughts its hard to set them straight.

Thanks to all that read this.

Josh, I would say option 2 would make it easier for you to land high level atheltes in the short term, whereas option 1 would allow you financially to get started on your personal goals. Educationally, options 2 or 3 would be best as well. Hard to really give advice on this since it depends on a lot of factors including but not limited to your overall ability, your overall desire, the training market in Australia.

Option 4: move to Little Rock and come work for me! I need good trainers, and they are hard to come by in this area.

Option 4 would go down great with my father in law (to be) he's looking for an excuse to move to overseas.

Seriously looking at option 2, however i feel like it'll be a waste of this degree to work "just" as a PE teacher.

Theres a careers market on today at the uni with employers looking for graduates so will see what kind of areas they are after.

Not saying NO to jp just yet.

Just as a trend that I've noticed, if your goal is to train high-level and possibly elite athletes, it seems most centres require not only a good experiential background, but also a Masters of some kind. Mind you, if you don't have the patience to do a Masters, then it's a bad choice for you. But most of the guys I know here who do work with the national teams started out as MSc or MKin students and got their experience during the graduate studies, as opposed to the other way around (i.e. getting experience and then returning to graduate studies)

thanks for that.

I want to do masters but also need to start some kind of work.

Option 2 gives me a job with enough time to complete master externally.

Many thanks for suggestions.

Do you pay a relocation fee and a hardship settlement for being in Arkansas?

The way things are going this year, I will probably be in a position to do something like that within the year. I am seriously going to be recruiting out of state talent as soon as I can afford to. Little Rock is seriously lacking.

Little Rock is a cool city!

If you visit, you will be surprised....you may even WANT to live there!

Hell, I'd move to Little Rock.
