Does anybody have any experience with this: http://www.nationalhometrainers.com/

I filled out an app and they called. I told them I was testing for my NASM cert this month, so they said when I am finished, contact them to see about employment. He said they have opportunities in my area, and actually asked if I was gonna have my test completed by the 13th. Maybe they have someone who needs a trainer.

I think this type of training might be more popular in my area, which contains a lot of rich folks (not me unfortunately).

John, are you saying this simply because you are working for some corporation? Or are you saying this because you are working out of people's homes?

As for as that national service and many like it, the way they operate is they find the clients for you in your area. This is great, because you don't have to market or hound people...the service finds people interetsed in fitness--usually located in condo's or apartment complexes, hotels--anywhere that has a fitness room. OR...simply people's homes.

Now the catch is...if your client pays $75/hour...you are only getting $25 and the service gets the rest. That ratio only grows in your favor IF you are able to maintain the person as your client after the "x" number of sessions is over. Only then you wil make ...maybe $30, then $35...BUT it will never be the whole cut.

Its great for experience...a friend of mine in central CT runs the same service. Its great, because you gain experiecne going into people's homes and training them with limited equipment--but from a income standpoint--you really get the short-end of the stick.

Not bad then, since Im looking for part time for now. Im looking for the experience as well. Quite possibly I could get referrals directly to myself, dont know. It stated on monster.com pay at 20-35 per hour, so thats what I was expecting. Seems about the same as a gym starting.

Thanks for sharing how that works ... so if I were to hang my own shingle doing the same thing, I would get the whole $$ in my pocket, but them I am out shlepping for clients ... right?

Yep. One of the trainers I worked with at the gym I just left is going this route. He's "all-inclusive" in that he goes to the grocery store with you, etc. He's charging a mint, but is also marketing to a very exclusive clientele.

You can try to get the clients yourself (and keep the ALL the money), once the initail sessions are over through the service. HOWEVER, you probbaly will end up signing a "non-compete agreement" with the service stating that you promise not to take clients away for personal gain.

What I used to do years ago...is I would get clients and recommend that a "trainer friend" of mine would train them in their homes using MY programs. I woudl follow up with the client through phone or e-mail, but my trainer-friend would go to the house to carry out my exericse prescription. The client paid $65 a session and I paid the trainer $25. I kept the rest...simply to make a weekly call and answer e-mails. I stopped working like this becuase I missed the interaction and I need to "be there" to take repsonsibility.

I won't be going through a service ... just me myself and I out there marketing myself and getting clients. In my area, there are a few gyms, and a few private studios, but it doesn't seem like there are many "at home" trainers ... and where I live is very wealthy ... lots of bored housewives, stay at home moms, retired wealthy ... etc! I've got lots of ideas about marketing myself (emphasizing my physical therapy background) ... I'm working now on putting together my marketing materials, and looking to write a few articles for the local paper in it's health and fitness section (there was a notice today that they are looking for articles to publish!) ... if only there were more hours in the day!!
