Default Do steriods cause water retention?

Legal ones from the doctor. Doctor started me on some for my allergies and wieght jumped up.

I don't know about water retention - they should be anti-inflammatory (and inflammation can make you hold water). In my experience, predisone starts with a p(ee) for a reason
By the same token, again predisone can make your appetite soar and if you aren't watching it that can of course have consequences - especially if I eat simple carbs or something else unusual to me that has a water retention consequence.

Prednisolone is infamous for water retention especially in the face ie moon face.

oh yes, any doctor will tell you that water retention plus increase appetite is a common side effect of oral steroids.

How long are you supposed to be taking them? I've taken them off and on for the last several years for allergic rashes (the longest time was for three weeks last fall) and didn't gain much weight (although I was mindful of what I was eating because I knew they increased appetite).
