The Fat Loss TroubleshootThis is your place to troubleshoot your fat loss problems from nutrition to training. This section is led by Leigh Peele, author of "The Fat Loss Troubleshoot," the ultimate fat loss manual. If your results have slowed or stalled this is the place to come for advice for all your fat loss needs.
I was trying to remove any link to the site so that it would not be seen as spam or self promotion. I wasn't try to hide anything. If you want to discuss it in this thread fine.
Here is the clear view on it.
1. You can buy the Body By Eats book. It is a payment option so that it isn't one lump some.
2. You also get 2 free months of membership.
3. After those two free months it will cost 19.95
4. There is a affiliate/rewards program. For the rewards program you get points for posting in the forums and helping others. There will be monthly contest/drawings that members will get. Things like gift cards, supplements, food, etc.
5. I am there answering questions, you can cancel anytime, you can talk anytime, nothing is weird or sketchy.
If anyone has a question or wants to talk about anything you can feel free. If you have a positive or negative opinion you can feel free to comment.
Let make a final statement because this is bugging me and I am only human.
Look, I get you guys don't like the business of this. I try and keep everything out on the table. There are no secret handshakes or back patting. I could easily make double the money I make if I was willing to fold on the quality of my products or the associations I make.
This book is good, really good. The site is good, really good. It is about building a community and trying to keep people involved. It isn't about sending people on their way with a product dumbfounded. Most people buy these damn books, look at them once, and then never use them. If winning some silly prizes helps do that, I am all for it.
This is a business I run, this is my job. I do have to charge people for services and time now. That doesn't mean you have to buy though, you know? Not everyone needs to be a member of the site, but some people will really benefit from it. It is more than a forum, it is more than updated books, it is about a mindset and giving the people who need that extra help the help. That is all.
I guess I don't understand where the problem lies. I love the book, think the forum is shaping up to be very supportive, and have no problem paying for the material on the blog and the ability to ask you (and others) questions when I need answers.
I think the marketing has been fine for this product. Just my opinion though.

It's only a gate if you want it to be that way.
I have no idea what further responses there were after my post so I've no idea what other comments you are responding to. I think my post was pretty polite so I can't imagine that is what is triggering this response.
That said, I'm taking your "It's only a gate if you want it to be that way" comment as a response to my post since I think I used the phrase "gated community." I've seen the phrase used before to describe a certain type of internet business model and that's how I meant it. I've certainly belonged to places that had that setup (as well as ones that had a gated area for part of their content).
Nowhere did I say it was bad or evil to charge for your services. It's just that I prefer forums that use a different model. So it didn't look like a good fit for me from what I could make out from the description but I was curious what subscribers thought.
If any subscribers do want to post (or possibly repost) about the books and site I'd still love hear what they have to say since I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been trying to decide whether to make a purchase.

Damnit I keep replying to threads and posts and they (not the replies) keep getting deleted. I have no horse in this race, but I do have some random thoughts.
Im just curious, how many fitness cookbooks can you crank out before you run out of them?
You talk about creating a community and how youre going to only going to post on that site regularly (in the link), but how is going to be different from the FLzine forum other than you have to pay for it?

I've been a member of several forums where there is a monthly or yearly fee. Some of these are professional organizations, another was a meditation group and also I've been part of a fitness forum that charged about $20/month. The meditation and fitness forums each had monthly 'add-ons' that, in theory, made it more than just a forum.
The professional forums I stayed with for several years as they added value to my business. The meditation & fitness forums I quit after a short time because I didn't feel there was value for investment. In one instant, they promised but didn't deliver. In another, I tired of the personal issues that seemed to overtake the fitness/health message.
I think it's too early in the game to know whether BBE forum/blog will be good value for money (for me), because I think it rests on the participation of others in addition to Leigh. I can say that I've listened to the BBE audio in the last 24 hours and I found value in that. As I've said in other posts, it's not so much that I haven't heard similar information before but I find hearing the same things multiple times from different perspectives is beneficial. I also had 'ah ha' moments listening to some of her non-peer reviewed experiments that will change the way I do things in my daily life (NEAT type information). I also think she's on to something with regard to cooking meals!
Bottom line for me is that anything I can do to keep moving forward on the path to better health and fitness is worth the investment of time and money (assuming I can afford it).

We actually have over 75 ideas and 4 already in the works. It isn't just about cookbooks but convenience. Very few cookbooks give instructions via weight. You get the option of both weight (scale) and measure (cups/spoons). There are also some that will be very diet specific to help during harder programs. The PSMF edition in my opinion is going to be a miracle.
You may not need these type of things, but some people appreciate not having to figure it out and it being done for them. Do "everything on my own" people have a hard time following this concept.

This is nothing like FLzine. Flzine was a magazine site that was home to a completely different crowd. It failed because I couldn't keep up the hours and hours it went into running it while losing money. I assumed that I would make more out of advertising and commissions than I did, but I didn't. You can't expect people to write and work for free on a regular basis, even if they believe in a project. I couldn't do it all myself and I couldn't pay people, so that was that. If it runs again it will be ad/affiliate free and completely out of love.

People couldn't train with me once in person for the price that you would pay a month on that site. Most cookbooks cost at least 10 bucks, even the cheap ones with no pictures. The content is unique, it isn't watered down. You aren't going to get me for a sec to say it is overpriced, it's a bargin at that.
What I don't understand about the weird anger here and "disappointment" is people can just talk to me you know. Also you (not you Manny but you as in people) signed up on a list, you didn't have to. It isn't as if I am sending you PM's saying BUY THE BOOK! You signed up on a list, you asked me to send you the information. I will never understand that logic.
As to it being posted in here, it is the Fat Loss Troubleshoot section so it isn't completely moronic to think people would be interested and I didn't even do it myself, an excited person did who meant no harm at all or greed.
I am not changing the price, that isn't happening. The whole year of that price you get 12 (at least) more books, articles, videos, and answers by me. A week of training with me costs more than that.
However, I am open to options to help you get what you want. Like just the book, not the site, etc. I can set it up, it will take a week or so to get it approved through the merchant, etc. Then you can just get the books and never join the site or think about it more.
This is what people asked me for through my list, we have over 300 members now, so it isn't as if this is a huge problem but I am open to figuring out a way to let people get what they want. If you tell me what you want I can make it happen. I am not like a police officer where I "started to write the ticket and can't stop."
I admit I saw the affiliate link and (except for knowing the poster) automatically tagged it as spam (in my head). I see nothing wrong with people talking up something they love, but when the link implies some type of 'commission' (no matter what that is) I do tend to dismiss everything they've said.
In the past, in other forums I have suggested people check out Leigh's e-books, so I don't have any objection to the 'wow this is great' part of the message.
That PSMF thing will be ideal! How booooooring PSMF can be!!! The diet-specific stuff sounds very interesting, to be sure. Leigh, sure hope you didn't take offense to my small comment on the original thread. Affiliate stuff just rubs me the wrong way when I see links in forums, that's all. I still luv ya!
People are complaining about getting emails from you
Anyway... I've said my piece and I've kept it nice. I respect Leigh and I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion (except for the deletion of the posts... usually the link is just removed). I think the rewards program could be good and potentially bad. This thread just highlighted one of the negative aspects of such a program. Hence the discussion and my confusion at its deletion.
The link is a straight through one, yet if you use the discount code the person providing it gets their 'commission'. I realize affiliate links are easier and way more popular. I admit I never use them though. Yet, I had no problem when making my true protein purchase of putting in the discount code.

Nice line of thought...
I like how TP sets up the guidelines on that.
-no spamming (instead: Have I helped you today? Please use my.....or simply put "tit for tat")
-no selling
But that is also just a product rather than a system/community. And once you are in said community it wouldn't encourage posts as everyone would already be a member/have the book.

75 cookbooks? Fair enough.

No, and I wasnt disparaging the effort. Ive been on a lot of sites and I just see that too frequent updating usually leads to running out of ideas very quickly or churning out redundant or lower quality info over time.

The bold are the elements you had at FLzine. Seems like youve added onto that but arent relying on advertising and such. This is just my impression.

I think the issue was more with the whole clickbank thing (which doesnt bother me) and lack of disclosure of the original poster (shes not some random client but someone you have a close relationship with). This isnt the only forum where shes posted 'hai, check out this book, it rulz [/end]' without disclosing.

What do you want?
Im not asking you for anything, price or product-wise. Nor do I care how much you charge you clients. I was just curious as to how this would be different from your other business operations and websites. Hope it works out for you.
