So, here comes Winter. I do like it, but it can make losing weight that much more of a challenge, and it also tends to be a built-in excuse for the days that we don't want to exercise.
So, what is everyone's plan to make sure and keep succeeding at losing pounds through these winter months??
Personally, my first line of defense is the digital food scale. I am going to weigh everything, and log it completely and thoroughly. The calories are going to be realllllly watched.
Also, on the days that I don't want to hit the gym, I am going to do the simple 'at home' exercises, that still keep me moving.

I'm on break. No training, no dieting. Started 3 weeks ago and am maintaining @6,000 kcal/day so far.
I'm fully embracing it and am going to see how far I can push it without gaining any fat, but that initial glycogen load was quite impressive - was a fast 20lbs!
Unfortunately this time of year is prime time for training outdoors in Arizona, and normally would be kicking up training to levels even more insane than I usually do through the summer... but will be a sloth this year.

I plan to exercise outdoors when possible. The shorter days make this tough since I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark, but I can do some running during my lunch breaks at work. I don't mind the cold -- just dress properly and it's fine, as long as there isn't ice on the ground. I also hope to go skiing/snowboarding once a week or so during the season.
The rest of the plan is indoor workouts. I just finished NROL Strength I, and after a week's rest I will start Fat Loss III. Again, I can do lunchtime workouts or I can do the lifting at home.
As far as diet, I usually gain a little weight during the holidays, so my plan this year is to maintain my weight. I am hoping to lose about 8 lbs over the next 2 months, then maintain that until after the New Year.
we go to the gym every morning before work so that won't change as winter comes but I do notice that I get the winter nesting hongries. I'll have to work hard at resisting the nommy comfort foods and stay on the straight and narrow. I plan on doing a diet break around xmas but I do pretty well at having small amounts of bad foods on special occasions like turkey day or xmas day. I just gotta resist the urge to eat like that *every* day just cuz it's cold and blechy.
What sort of intermittent fasting do you do? Eat supper one day and then not eat until supper the next day, or something else?
Mostly, I just don't eat until dinner (or an hour before training on a training day).
I'm considering the 24 hour fast on non-training days, but so far it's hard to concentrate by dinner time. Doing any sort of work after I get home is almost out of the question without food. It might be something to work up to.

My Dad has done a couple of 21 day fasts (for religious purposes) where he would only drink like juice every 4 days or something.
And I have an uncle that has done 2 - 40 days fasts. He was actually hospitalized the last time.
I have nooooo idea how they could do it, honestly. They are both really stubborn people however, I always figured that had a lot to do with it.

Maybe it's different when you have to party your ass off but no, it's not hard to diet until January 5.. the trouble only starts afterwards.
If what happens in the past is a good predictor for the future, things will go like this...until about January 5, I'm alright & very motivated. It helps that I no longer spend a ton of time outside to cycle, like I used to in the past, so activity levels tend to stay more or less the same throughout the year.
The only thing to overcome is SAD, which only fully sets in around January 5 when ALL the nice winter events are finally over! (well ok, make that January 6, but I'm not Catholic) Everyone has ditched their Christmas trees, we've stopped congratulating each other with the New Year & everyone EVERYONE is on a DIET and also trying to cut costs after spending far too much money in December.
Worse yet, there's NOTHING to look forward to except carnival & ... doom & gloom sets in.
So, will just reserve January thru February as teh BULK months & hope for the best.
