Default Re introducing rant for anyone who cares?

Hey people, it's been a while since I've viewed these forums. 5 years or so??

I've recently jumped back on the health and fitness bandwagon again. Not that I really left, but it's time to go on a serious cut again.

My main vice has always been partying (alcohol not drugs), but I'm re motivated and focused on acheiving my goals again, hopefully with a little help from you!!!

33 years old and about to become a father, so the party is over and i couldnt be happier. While i havnt always counted calories, i have always stuck to the concepts of clean eating. What can i say, it's part of my lifestyle now!! The once a week beer binge has always slowed down my progress in the weight room and probably pushed my bf% to where it is now. i am very aware of that and eager to get back to my late teens early twentys hard body self. I hope.

Im weighing in at about 82 kgs which is 180 lbs

My tanita scale has me at 21 % bodyfat but i seriously think it's broken. I'll post a pic and get a calliper test done soon. I think I'm probably under 20 % as I have stomach definition. Penis lines and upper abs are visible.

Counting calories again as of last week and I'm aiming for about 2300. Sound too high??? macro breakdown is about 40 % protein (atleast i have eaten more than that more often than not) and I try and split the rest between low GI high fibre carbs and healthy fats.

I'm eating 6 times a day, and splitting meals between protein/carb and protein fat sittings the majority of the time 'a la Beraldi'

Post workout is usually low fat milk, or a PW shake of berries milk and protein powder.

Routine involves compound moves in a quad set Meltdown style, and i will be starting NROL in a couple of weeks.

Goal's are too get my bf percentage under 15 again, with a longer term goal of getting closer to 10 percent.

Anyway wish me luck. I'll try and post some pics soon!!!

Cheers!

aaron

I wish you luck. My advice is don't get caught up in clean eating. You can get fat on chicken, oatmeal, and olive oil. Focus on what your body needs daily in energy and go from there. Lots of good resources in this section so dive in.

There's a thread on bodybuilding.com all about it. (And I'm embarrassed at how much time I just wasted googling it.)

Oddly, they are exactly what I thought they would be. Although seems like they should get a more 'user friendly' name . . the other option I thought of was that he might mean 'pelvis lines' though that didn't ring a bell either.

I think I like "V" line better. I have an ex bf that called them the 'treasure trail' . . or was that the hair that starts on a guy's belly?

I think I have been single too long . .

**Look's like the thread say's they are really the Adonis Belt, or just part of the lower obliques

Thanks Leigh. I have figured out my maintenance calories with the Harris Benedict formula and Popeyes 12 times bodyweight in lbs to cut theory. Am i missing anything?

My macro spilt yesterday was way to high in fats around 45 percent with 33 percent protein. I'm generally aiming for a split of protein 40% fat 30% carbs 30%

Im 182 pounds and Im aiming for 2300 cals a day to cut my bodyfat percentage.

Do you think I'm on the right track??? Anyone have any advise, critique or links to recommend?????

Once again thanks for your time!!!

PBI, Leigh, that is so good to hear. I'm new to NROLFW and tracking and I'm trying to eat as much unprocessed food as possible but its not completely avoidable (especially if you want to enjoy what you're eating). Right now I'm trying to just focus on meeting my protein requirements as that will necessarily bring my carbs and fats into balance.

I'm hoping to get your book real soon, comes highly recommended here!

I think it takes a lot more than a comment about penis lines to offend the ladies of this board. I also had to look it up, just to confirm it is what I was thinking of.

As for the calorie intake and macros, the best way to figure out if it's working for you is to observe your progress (or lack of it) for a few weeks. That's been the case w/me, and I'll adjust calories accordingly if I see no fat loss. And for tracking the body fat %, just remember to use the calipers consistently - in other words, don't switch to another measuring method midway, because the #'s will be different. I actually used the Omron successfully when I was in fat-loss mode last year, because even though it was off in estimating my real bf%, it still showed me that I was losing fat overall.

Best of luck!

Oh, that's interesting; do you think it's true? I have the Moron/Omron and have only used it twice because I thought it was so inaccurate. Do you think it is consistently inaccurate, so that I could sort of depend on it to at least see a downward trend?

It trends consistently if we are consistent about how we use it - weighing same time of day, same hydration, etc.

I have found it to be consistently inaccurate if used at the same time of day under the same hydration levels.

I too have an Omron and my tanita scale. I even have different calipers.

I'm using the Omron and tanita and taking an average of the two. I figure one does better measuring upper body, the other lower body.

Whatever....I'm looking for progress.

My best monitor will be the mirror of course, and now I've set a goal to have my waist go under 30". I'm aiming for health, not a bf %age.

TheWookie and MissJane got it right. When I was using the Omron, I always did it under the same conditions: first thing in the morning, after I had a glass of water, but before breakfast, in my PJs. I knew that if I used the Omron later in the day, the numbers would be way off from other readings (And I did test the Omron at different times, just to see what would happen. The wildly different figures confirmed my guess.)

So even if the numbers aren't necessarily accurate, by using it in similar conditions consistently, you should still be able to track an overall progression. What I saw on the Omron may not have been an ideal bf%, but as long as there was a downward trend, I was happy.

Annette - I agree with you, bf% isn't such a huge deal, because other things such as overall health and body measurements are personally more important to me as well.

Where can I get my body fat measured accurately without buying these caliper things? I have a 7 day free membership to golds but I'm afraid if I go in they'll keep bugging me to join and i can't afford to now lol.

I get mine measured with the Bod Pod twice a year. You can see if your local university's sports department has one. Or maybe a local gym.
