Default Truth or myth? Flab gets flabbier as we lose it.

I am losing flab currently. I am going by visual and tactile evidence (how a few pairs of shorts, jeans and jackets fit) rather than the scale because the scale and I have a loooong history of mutual abuse.

I know I am losing flab, because the items I mentioned are all fitting better. Zippers are zipping, buttons are buttoning, butterflies are singing and I think I caught a chipmunk winking at me the other day. Anyway.

I just got terribly excited because I looked in the mirror and my gut looked awful. AW-FUL. Bumpy, cottage cheesy, jiggly, awful.

I am excited because I believe the myth that fat stores get even less attractive as we lose weight. What was solid-looking (and gross) becomes jiggly (and grosser!) as it melts away.

Do you agree? Do you have the same experience? Or am I delusional?

Wait, don't answer that question...

Leigh, any words of wisdom?

Great link, missjane. Although I'd heard of him before, I hadn't been to Lyle's site. He's got quite a sense of humor! Thanks.

Oh yeah I get the whooshes. I also get the "sag". All that nice firm fat suddenly seems to go to mush and sags. Over a few weeks the sag tightens up and then it starts all over again.

I am loving every ugly bump as I sport my size-smaller-than-I-wore-a-month-ago jeans

I deduce I must have had a layer of strucural belly fat between my regular belly fat and my internal organs. I think I have lost mainly this load-bearing fat, which has caused my beer belly to collapse.

Still an improvement!

all kidding aside, if you have truly lost visceral fat (belly fat under the muscle layer and atop the internal organs), that is the BEST belly fat to lose (for health)

That's true Lisa. But I should have put up some 2x4s for bracing or something.
