Default Gowear fit questions

hi all of those who have experience, need some guidance as the FAQ on the website doesnt help.

1.) I had my device on all day today and I tonight I moved it to my upper arm and it made a sound right away. Does this mean that the thing wasnt recording at all this whole time? i didnt realize about the power button on the top to check if its recording and I really want to get my results tomorrow

2.) When do you all typically upload your device? The next morning?

3.) Do you usually wear this thing for 24 hours before uploading? i dont own the display....
Thanks!

1. Depends on what sound it made...different sounds mean different things. They are described in the instructions.

2. I upload about 2 times a week.

3. I wear mine all the time except when I shower.

Ok I uploaded it this morning for the first time. I am so confused! i will call them later today and ask them, but maybe you can help.

I read it says it tracks from midnight to midnight.

Im not sure its accurate, unless I am a restless sleeper!

It say for yesterday that I burned 2730 calories, 3:23 hrs activity, 10210 steps, and 0 hrs of sleep. I went to bed at 10:30pm, so at least should have recoreded an hour sleep, no? (well, I did get up a few times in the middle of the night to attend to baby)

This morning it says I burned 442 cals, 5 hrs sleep (I got up at 630am), 189 steps.

Does this mean I burned 2730+442 cals, making it over 3000?????? Why is my sleep inaccurate?

Part of your sleep time is recorded on the previous day. From when you went to bed to midnight. The rest is recorded on the current day from midnight until you got up. It should show you when you were lying down as opposed to sleeping. It does not seem to record the lightest stage of sleep and counts that as lying down.
Another way to tell is to look at your calories burned for that time period. If you were not in a true sleep your calorie burn is probably over 1 cal a minute for that time period.
As for your calories burned - the 442 is for the period of midnight the current day until you down loaded the arm band. 2730 is for the previous day midnight to midnight. So, no, you burned roughly 2730 cals for a 24 hour period and should not ad the 442 cals into this number.
The 189 steps it recorded is the number of steps you took after midnight when you fed the baby plus any steps you took after waking but before you uploaded the arm band.

As for sleep - it probably is acurate. Most of us are unaware how poorly we sleep. It is quite possible that you are not sleeping as well as you thought. The GWF shows that I was "lying down" and not truly sleeping 10 seperate times last night. But I only recall being awake once. I have also discovered that I sleep walk. No joke! The gowear says I was "awake" for 10 or 15 minutes and that I took 40 or 50 steps. But I will have no recollection at all. Interesting no?

Ok didnt see the drop down menu. So it doesnt think I fell asleep until 12am and it says I had 7 hrs of lying down and 4:51 hrs of sleep. 65% sleep efficiency. (I know I need to work on it)

It probably counted the nap I took in the afternoon.

I put the band on yesterday at 7am.

I sleep walk too....200 steps overnight!! Holy crap

I still upload mine 3-6 times a day. I love seeing the numbers go up. I have a display, and use it occasionally now.

I love waking up in the morning and seeing 400-600 cals already burned from midnight to morning. Midnight to 6 am today gave me 440. It's like a start to the day. Add a nice 300 calorie walk and I'm well over 1000 by noon, and I know it will be a high burn day.

Just for contrast - I upload once/week unless there's something specific I want to check on... and I don't sleep in it except every once in a while to check in - I find that my arm is happier if I let the skin "air out" overnight... Other than that, it's on from the minute I wake til I climb into bed at night (except the shower!)

Bytsi, if you don't wear it at night, do you just let the GWF estimate your calories while sleeping OR do you take the calorie burn from a night you DID sleep with it and use that?

I let it estimate my sleep calories, since I wore it for a week to let it get an idea of my sleep... and every once in a while I let it update.

I figure it's gonna underestimate if anything, since it doesn't count bathroom trips and rolling around if I don't wear it

Moving it on your arm and it making a noise could've meant that it thought you were no longer wearing it and it powered off. Like Jane said, different sounds mean different things.

I upload in the morning while I'm in the shower. Charge it at the same time, too.

I wear it as close to 24 hours as I can get aside from shower/epsom salt baths.

Welcome to the world of GWF. You'll love it.

So I am confused again. When I upload the device, it has a different number than when I pick the specific day.

For example, on Tues it said I burned 2750 cals, but when I click on the specific day, it says 2250.

For Wed it says I burned 2875 but when I click on the specific day, it says 2450.

Which one is it? I would think the lower number is more accurate, 2850 is just a boatload of calories I doubt my body is burning!

Edit: so I went and clicked on specific day again, and its showing the higher numbers again. What is going on with this thing? Anyone else experience this?

Get movin, I think something is set wrong in your program. You mentioned before that it didn't track your sleep hours properly, said you didn't sleep until 12 am when you know you went to bed at 10:30. It will pick up that you went to bed.

Perhaps the number you have off is related to that.

In the drop down box under "Sleep Duration" does the graph go from Noon to Noon? That is how it should be set if you sleep at night. For someone who sleep during the day they would have it set Midnight to Midnight.

Make sure the sleep hours you have set start with a PM number and end with an AM number. i.e. 10:30PM to 6:00AM. I've read in other forums where that has been entered incorrectly in the program.

Don't know if that's the answer though.

Perhaps you need to reinstall the program. I'd contact them.

Its set right. I see what I did wrong. I clicked on "last 7 days" and I should have just checked "single day"

So Tuesday is 2730 and Wed is 2850. WOW. I am an active chickie. At least now I know that teaching all those classes as a group fitness instructor is allowing me more calories burned!!

I am doing the spinning test.

So yesterday I put it on my calf and it said 400 calories.
Today I put it on my arm and it read 320 calories.
Tonight I am going to take it off and enter it manually, which will be about 384 calories. So it looks like we only lose 60 calories keeping it on our arm, so its reading the temperature accurately.

getmovin,

One thing, I've occasionally found the need to refresh the screen if I am moving from day to day. What I will see when I expand a dropdown arrow is the graph from the last day I was looking at. Refresh solves this 100% of the time.

As to the difference in calorie readings you are seeing. Any chance you are confusing the total calories burned amount shown for the day with the amount shown in the adjustable slider of the graph below. Hoping this picture explains what I'm talking about

Kimakaw,

Thaks for posting this screen and the explanation arrows. I just got my GWF on Wednesday and was having confusion on actual calories and calories burned. Today will be my first 24 hr day for the GWF and already I am learning a lot about how many calories I burn a day and can see that I need to lower my calories.

CindyC - Glad to help, let me know if you have any more questions. A big part of my *real* job is helping folks with software (totally non-fitness related), so answering things like this comes pretty naturally.

Which leads me to....

getmovin78 - how to put up the image. Which piece- how to post images in messages? Or how to make that snazzy screen shot image? I'll try to answer both. Because of work I have a very cool piece of software called Snag-It on my computer. Not freeware, maybe $30, Such a great tool if you have frequent need for grabbing screen shots. I use daily at work, and frequently at play :-). Can edit, crop, add text, lines etc, then save as .jpg or .pdf. Much faster than print screen, paste into powerpoint or word, screw around with, crop, group all, save as .jpg. But that would be how I did it before.

So now assuming you have an image. I use photobucket to store the ones I share in messages. Never could get picassa to work for posting. Just upload to my free photobucket account, re-size small, copy the direct link photobucket provides into the add image thing

Okay, now I'm just showing off...I'll quit ;-)
