I'd hazard a guess that figure competitors are probably at some level of dehydration, too, at least on the day of the show/photo shoot, while that may not be the case (or at least not to that degree) for fitness competitors. Having the degree of definition that you often see in figure competitors typically has at least some level of water (and perhaps other) depletion/manipulation, right?

I've also noticed here and there references to competition weight/off season weight.

Figure and fitness do water/carb manipulations at comp levels. If any of you own the FLTS package you can look at the Water Manual to see what some of that looks like as I go into detail on how to do different styles of loads.

I do think the mainstream media is starting to recognize that athletic women can be attractive. E.g. this article from Germany - "Atemberaubend schön - und sportlich" ("Breathtakingly beautiful - and athletic" : http://sport.de.msn.com/gallery.aspx...entid=16719085 . Lots of different body types, all athletic looking.

About time!
However, the pics of individual body parts... I dunno. That really bothers me, when the only object in the pic is an ass in a bikini bottom or a pair of giant fake boobs. Not that there's anything WRONG with showing either of those, but it would be nice if they were shown attached to the entire woman who owns them. Otherwise, we're reduced to T&A, as usual....

Oh, I agree with you there. (for some reason, MSN Deutschland always seems kind of trashier than the English version). Small steps, you know?

ewwwwww. I don't see "mighty muscles" or a bodybuilding physique in her. I just see arms that have such little fat that any muscle shows through. Also looks very dehyrdated. My 96 yr old grandma has visible muscles like that because she is very thin and frail.

Looks like they photoshopped the arms of a cadaver on her.

I thought it might be retouched too since her chest is not all sunken in and showing her sternum, clavicle or upper ribs. But who knows? It is gross regardless and Rachel Cosgrove had a good email about it today.

Taken at a concert in Norway, on Tuesday July 29th, 2009

Another muscled woman in her 50s would be Holly Hunter...
