Default study on crash dieting

Sounds like "get in, get out" might be more effective, especially if you're not a very restrained eater?

Not the actual study, but related links:

Still seems to me--do whatever you know will work for you. But these things are still interesting.

Boy .. I know crash dieting works for sure .. and I know the bulk of what I lost through crash dieting was muscle mass and bone (I'm 33 and have osteoporosis) ..

I can't believe that they took the time to do a study on overall weight loss .. yet didn't take the time to take a snapshot of the type of weight those girls lost .. I'd bet my first born (if I ever have one), that they're a walking fracture waiting to happen at worst ... and at best, probably can't lift a gallon of water post-diet.

How sad

Why don't they mention HEALTH? Isn't that supposed to be what it's all about? This sort of thing makes my mind go to The Biggest Loser. That's a train wreck of a crash diet!

I don't see 1200 cals/day as "crash dieting". For people who are smaller to beign with, work a desk job and workout even as much as 5-6 days a week with good intensity that might just be a 30% deficit.

You're right in that it definitely depends on your starting point. (I'm 5'10" so my perspective is that 1200 is definitely low.) However, even for a 5' 1" female who only weighs 100lbs - her BMR would be around 1200 with no activity. Although of course there are definitely some who would fit that description! :-)

Not anywhere near as low as 100lbs (and taller) and that *almost* is my description.
