Default GI Eating

I feel like I am eating a lot of carbs in my diet (close to 200 a day)..I am looking to lower my carbs and see if possibly aide in my fatloss, would follow a low GI way of eating be a smart way to lower my carbs?

Since fewer carbs means more of something else (probably protein) why not take the approach of planning how to get more of the other macros in your diet? Most people here plan their meals to get the protein in first, then "fill in" with carbs and fats as needed.

It's really fewer calories that will aid in your fat loss, not carbs or shifting to lower GI carbs. If you drop the carb calories and don't add anything else in, you will increase your deficit and lose weight. If you replace the carb calories with something else, you won't change much.

If you're truly trying to fine tune things for health, etc., get enough protein, then enough of your healthy fats, then the rest can be carbs. From a micronutrient standpoint, fruit and veggies carbs, milk/dairy, and whole grains are better for you than sugars, starches, and sweets in the same calorie amounts. They tend to be more satisfying/satiating, too.

So, don't worry about how many carbs, just how many calories. That being said, for some people, carbs are trigger foods and/or are less satisfying, making it harder to stick to the fewer calories. For those people, fewer carbs (or limiting the types of carbs) can help to keep on track.

As I was driving home from work I realized I'd assumed the OP was already attempting a deficit and that I should've clarified...

I eat between 150 to 200g of carbs a day, it feels fine for me. Whole wheat carbs may help you to feel full longer than more processed carbs though, and they may contain more nutrients as well. Carbs seem to be a very personal thing, though. I bought into the low carb thing for a while, but it just made me dizzy, and carbs make me feel happy and active

GI is really meaningless when it comes to weight loss. You take a high GI food and eat it with a little fat and protein and voila it is no longer "high GI". Very few people eat meals comprised of just one type of food so unless you have meals where you only eat say a plate of rice or pasta or gummy bears then no need to worry about GI.

Harrison, if you're trying to lose fat, you're going to need a caloric deficit. If you eat a lot of carbs, that's the easiest macronutrient to cut (and keeping others about the same).

Here's my low-GI sandwich:

(i made one once. It felt like I was going to die while eating it. In a good way)
