This is a question on my mom's behalf, and I recognize that things might be (probably are) more complicated than you could answer here. I just thought I'd check here first...
My mom had a stroke 2.5 yrs ago and has struggled with her health since then. One major problem is that her NEAT and general activity level has plummeted, and she's gained weight just because she's not moving around even remotely close to what she used to.
At any rate, she's having lots of swelling and water retention, mostly in her hands and legs. Her doc had her on diuretics as needed, but they weren't helping, and now she's on daily diuretics, though things are worse than before. She was referred to an endocrinologist who ran some tests (suspected a cortisol issue--I think Cushings, though she didn't say specifically which one to my mom), but all of the tests came back in the normal range, though the high end of normal.
Can you think of anything that she could do to try to help ease the water retention/swelling or is this something she needs to pursue more aggressively with the doc? She has cut back on water because when she increased water she said things got worse. She tries to walk daily for at least 30 min sustained. I didn't calculate her sodium intake, but it shouldn't be too high; she eats a pretty healthy diet and doesn't add salt or eat a lot of processed foods.
Thanks for any input! I know that she's going back to the endo, but I'd love any tips to help her in the meantime.
