Default Whey and Goat ppowder making my stomach hurt?

Ok I know I have been on here talking about this before, I couldnt find my old thread, BUT this is a SEMI - NEw question.

I have had a hard time this last year tolerating BSN, ON, and ISOPURE. My stomach hurts for at least an hour after drinking these shakes. Oh I have used muscle milk too.

I can eat dairy, yogurts, cheeses, milks etc with no problem.

SOmeone told me to try Goat milk protein powder. I ordered the ORYX brand, have used it twice and I have the exact same experience. As i type this my stomach is hurting really bad?

What gives? Is it the splenda in it as someone suggested?
The thing is I use splenda in my iced tea and coffee, I use splenda instead of sugar for everything and have had no problem.

I know some of you will say just dont use Protein powders, BUT its really bugging me that I cant figure this out?
Anyone have any other thoughts or suggestions as to what it could be?

Thanks
Shari

I don't know. I think some people just don't have a good reaction to whey. It's not uncommon. Egg, beef, or similar proteins might work better for you. From what I've seen suggested, they're better digested. The whey issue isn't necessarily anything to do with how you tolerate dairy… it's the protein itself in it's isolated/concentrated form that seems to bug people.

Thanks!

I wonder if I could just get egg white powders and add cocoa or vanilla extract....anyone done this?

Default protien powders

Hi shari,
Goats milk powder? How did this taste? hmm

I have found that I am now allergic to diary--well maybe not so much allergic as to having a sensitivity to it, I use to do protien powders 2-3 times a day I loved them--whey--I use to sometimes get the pain the tummy, and someone once told me that it could be the xanatham gum or carregean which is only fiber or stuff to thicken it but I guess they put a lot of it, Not to mention that the fact you are getting high doses of the whey which maybe you are having a reaction to--

My allergy reaction now is my nose runs, I get congested etc,I thought it was the splenda, stevia, or cocoa in it--I thought I was having a candida reaction, but had labs done and showed that I had built up a sensitivity to dairy/which includes the casien, all whey is made from the protien in milk

I did at one time try the Whey isolates which is not suppost to trigger allergies, but after having test done, I have not tried again?

I have tried the egg white protein powder--was way to salty for me?? you may like it, you can try it, but I could taste the salt over the vanilla and over the cocoa??

Dessie

Oh I have done some of the brown rice protein powder, but you have to aquire the taste--not the best!!
But if you need to get boat loads of protien in and don't want the bulk, I guess it is not bad, although like everyone says real food is the best for ya anyway--but I use to use my protein shakes for supplement use and my dessert, use to put in blender and lots of ice--mmm like ice cream--for pretend, or protein powder oatmeal cookies, etc--it is nice to dream!!

I know i can just eat chicken but that gets old.

What kind of doc did u go to to get your blood work done for something like this?

I have had it done twice once a year ago with a nutritionist and now this year--I have a doc that is Family practice/endocrinologist/homeo pathic, yup all three wrapped up in one--
But I think the allcat lab will let you order it on your own--just thru them, that is the one I had done a year ago, which measure food sensitivies/inflammation response and if you come up positive then there are different levels of sensitivies, mild, med, high and mild you would rotate in every 4th day, med you would avoid 3-6 months, and high, do not add back in?

The other one was ordered thru Meridian valley, I am not sure if you can do this one yourself or not, but it measures not only the sensitivies/inflammation response, but also the IGE which is the true allergy--I think
I came up postive in dairy with both labs

I am sure if you see a nutritionist or an allergist you could have this done or ordered otherwise go online and get numbers and call-I am pretty sure you can do on your own
Dessie, hope this helps

Are you just looking to get in some protein after workouts? Instead of a powder have you ever tried Pure Protein shakes? I get mine from the Vitamin Shoppe. I can't explain why powders messing with you but instead of just eating eggs and chicken all the time you may want to try this! The only thing about them is they so have alcohol sugar, I'm not sure how you tolerate them but I know for some it bothers their stomach

OMG, do not try anything with sugar alcohols if you have stomach issues. You will blow everyone out of the room!! Seriously......nasty.

I've heard that bits of lactose can get into whey products, more likely in concentrate than in isolate? But if you can eat regular dairy no problem, then maybe not.

Is there any chance it's just a protein bomb reaction? I'm a little new to protein powders myself, but even one scoop (whey) in a drink packs quite a wallop on me. I feel kind of bloated, and I can plow through dairy like a rock star. It's not dissimilar to the discomfort I felt after eating a giant turkey leg (waaay too much protein). What happens if you eat a large serving of raw meat?

You can try rice, pea, egg, beef, or soy proteins. I know truprotein.com has a variety (haven't bought from them personally).

I have many food intolerances ... I use gemma (pea) protein powder from True Protein ... it's much better than brown rice powder (which is really really gritty).

Just as an aside ... at the summit I asked Alan Aragon after his presentation, about protein powders since he was talking about pre- and post-workout nutrition and using PP. He told me to use soy. The great soy debate is bunk apparently ... and I trust Alan's opinion as he really looks at all the research.

Whey has always bothered me, though I still eat it anyway sometimes.

Most of the time I use egg. I have soy/pea in stock as well.

In general, though I don't use powders that much and I don't recommend them for most people with digestion issues unless you are using them as a supplement delivery.

Are you using the glutamine/probotic/enzyme combo yet?

Yes ma'am per your request!
Thanks all...my issue is there are days when i need to get in about 140 grams protein but im also in a deficit right now, so im once again still trying to get the most bang for my buck! I love LEighs choc pp/ pb2 combo thingy as she calls it....It uses protein powder though.

I did go out last night and find out that FAGE greek fat free yogurt has 20 grams a protein per cup, so today im gonna try to make a shake with that and just use 1/4 of the amount of protein...I could just eat the yogurt too, but i want to see if i can come up with something close to a shake....im weird and enjoy them, especially in the summer.

Leigh and all, please clarify specific supplement? I have occasional stomach pain upper right of belly near illiocycal valve, but it's been checked out as "gas pockets. I tend towards it but am doing pretty well now with clean eating.

I take Udo's Adult Enzymine and PB8.

What about the Glutamine? How do I get that? Is there 1 combo pill?

BTW, every time I see this topic's title I imagine whole goats ground up into powder. It's cruel, but hilarious.
