Default Fat loss questions from a 50 year old man.

Hi Leigh et al,

Please let me know your thoughts on this. I am currently a 50 year old male and weigh 246.2 pounds. I am rotating through the fat loss programs in the NROL and take a 1 hour walk 4-6 days a week.

I started using Fit Day to take my cals and found that I am eating around 2000/day. I know that this is a bit under what I should be doing, but I am currently not overwhelmed with hunger. Over the past few weeks I’ve been dropping in excess if 3 pounds per week.

My question is; is there any short term danger to using this as a daily calorie level until the fat loss slows down at which point I would add about 500 calories per day? If my body is going to give up fat right now, I’d like to run with it for a while. What does everyone think?

P.S. – This thread is great for talking about all those little things that affect fat loss. I am amazed at the level of knowledge here.

P.S.S. – Leigh, I got Tom Venuto’s Body Fat Solution, and it really changed my approach to changing my lifestyle. The thing that really got me moving forward wasn’t necessarily knowing what to do; it was the mind-shift of planning each day to DO it. Great information on getting one’s head in the right place to change a lifestyle.

First off, congratulations on making a change and taking the reigns, seems like you are doing good so far.

You are already going to be more prone to losing fat over muscle at your size. Add to the fact that you are training, that is another plus, and then lastly if you can make sure you are getting adequate protein intake daily, then you should be gold going at that rate for many pounds.

If you hit a stall simply take a little time off, eat at maintenace/little over and then hop back on the fat loss horse.
