Is there anyway I can change this for one day? Maybe do it as a reload instead? I cant say no to the bosses cake and lunch and then dinner with family and cake. I dont know what to do? Or just count it as cheats and eat really well at lunch and dinner, minus their deserts?
Help. Im down 5 pounds so Im on track for sure.
You pretty much have to make these decisions for yourself.... it isn't jail, you do have some timing flexibility, or you should.
Do you have to gorge on the cake and lunch and cake and dinner? Can't you have a couple of bites and be done with it? Just curious how much cake you're planning on throwing down....
A piece from boss and a piece from family and a starbucks frap light from a coworker. I can do the dinners and lunch healthy. But thats still way over and mainly carbs. i was thinking making it a reload day with training and doing an off day tomorrow rather than Day B.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! I HAD MY 40TH BIRTHDAY LAST WEEK AND I ATE LIKE CRAZY. BUT I STILL CAME OUT LOSING. JUST PICK UP THE NEXT DAY AND START ALL OVER.

Why not do an Eat Stop Eat fast the day before or the day after, to get your calories down: from the dinner party to dinner the next day, only drink water and black coffee/tea.
are you using OPT remix becuase you are getting ready for a competition, or just to lose some weight/recomp.
if you aren't using the program because you are prepping for a comp. i think you should enjoy your birthday like a normal healthy person: don't gorge, don't stuff your face, don't starve yourself before or afterwards to "make up" for the extra calories you've eaten.
i've been through the "skipping my birthday to diet" deal and looking back, its one of my (many) regrets.
you should be able to enjoy your birthday. its one day. you can be on your diet the day before, and return to your diet the day after.
the world, and your life, won't end or be effected because you decided to "break" your diet for one day to enjoy your birthday.

I think the intermittent fasting idea is a bad one. We need to learn how to enjoy special occasions without the guilt and without going crazy. There is one thing to have a piece of cake or two, another to use a bday as an excuse to pig out all day long. Doing a "fast" after a day of higher calorie eating is very unhealthy behavior IMO
I agree 110% with all the people saying not to overthink, not to obsess, not to self-punish.
It's ONE day. In life, you don't get that many birthdays - so RELAX and enjoy. Don't pig out til you're sick as a dog, but relax.
I know it's hard. I've been there - felt like you, wondering if it'll "ruin" all your work. It won't. I even questioned the timing of my (booked a year ago) vacation that we just took because it might screw with my diet and progress. Then I took a step back and realized how totally eff'ed up that way of thinking was.
Guess what? I gained weight on vacation. But I LIVED and had fun and the weight is coming back off now. And that was two weeks - one day won't make a huge difference in the big picture of living your life.
If fasting is a punishment for enjoying your birthday then LaraT may be right and you should rethink why you're fasting. But, there's nothing wrong with a healthy person making a healthy mental decision to compensate for a day of extra calories by fasting.
Or get over the need to say you "have" to have this cake.
Either you WANT it, or you don't. You don't HAVE to eat cake.
And this is coming from a girl that really likes cake.
Is your boss gonna fire you if you say thanks but no thanks?
Is your family gonna hate you? Your coworker gonna try to get you fired?
Your whole thought process here is a bit whack.
You WANT the stuff, and that's ok.
And it's ok to take a day and enjoy some friggin cake.
One day in your life when it comes to food isn't gonna mean much, regardless of which way you play it. Gettin fat takes some hard work, it don't happen over one birthday. Gettin lean takes some hard work, and it ain't all for naught because of one birthday.
But unless someone gots a gun to your head, you don't HAVE to do anything, and even then you still have a choice. Take the reins, girl.

Thank you! I was thinking along these same lines and starting to question myself, over the "unhealthy" statement. I have done IF'ing and it is, by no means, being used as a punishment.

Exactly what I was going to say, you two!! I've often taken it easy after a day (ahem....weekend) of indulging. Just makes sense to me.
But, I still say that to stress over one day is ridiculous! Just do whatever you want.
i wasn't saying that she shouldn't not eat if she's not hungry after a day of eating a little more. nor did i mean to imply that "intermittent fasting" was unhealthy. personally, i no longer eat unless i'm truely hungry. sometimes this means i don't eat until lunch (in an "IF" eating style). but i'm not skipping a meal because i ate over my calories the day before or what not.
i was merely saying that one shouldn't not eat to "compensate". it's different to skip a meal and not eat because you aren't hungry than it is to not eat because you over ate the day before.
i was trying to emphasize the mentality behind it:
are you not eating/fasting because you truely aren't hungry?
or are you not eating/fasting because you are "compensating"?
anyways, back to the original poster:
one other thing that crossed my mind is that if you are really set on sticking to the diet but also really want to be able to have some cake without disrupting your diet, i'm sure you could re-arrange your days so that your reload day is on your birthday so that the extra calories "fit" into your plan. i'm not familiar with it otherwise i'd make a suggestion on how you could do so. maybe PM leigh and see if she has a suggestion for how you could arrange the schedule.

yeah it is different if one cuts back after a day or two of indulgences vs "punishing" oneself for having eaten more than they normally do. And many people are naturally less hungry the day after a big feast and will therefore eat less.
It is crazy though to stress so much over one day. Even if it did cause you to maintain, or even temporarily gain (which is unlikely) so what? It is not a race and like I said unless you need to step on stage for a competition in the near future or make a weight for a sport it is not an issue. What counts is the trends over time. That is life and we all know that even weeks we are 100% compliant we still might not lose or even gain. Getting comfy with that and not freaking out is key to long term weight management IMO
Bdays will hopefully come to us every year for many years to come. So will holidays, special events, etc. Learning to enjoy without going crazy is a skill that will serve you well for years to come.
Nah, Im not going crazy eating. At all. But Im going to just minus a day and do my nutrition off day tomorrow and pick up there. I am sticking to the plan very well and I am very proud of myself. So, I can enjoy this and pick up tomorrow. And Im doing quite a bit of cardio today anyway. Its beautiful outside!!!
And no its not a matter of HAVE to eat or Ill get fired, but Im not going to be a complete asshole to the people on my birthday trying to do something nice for me.
