Question Symptoms of fat loss...

Leigh (or anyone that can chime in

I started my "new program" of tracking calories and going easier on the activity.

I am getting ~1400-1500 calories a day and burning on avg 2300 (GWF)

A few questions, kinda strange so bear with me

I have noticed my eyelashes are becoming much shorter (always notice this when I cut calories), usually I have really long lashes and whenever I start dieting they get noticeably shorter, is this normal?

Also, my sleeping metabolic rate has gone down from 1.2 to 1, and my resting rate during the day has also gone down by about the same...however, I know this may be "normal", just want to double check.

I do feel like I am already getting leaner and it is noticeable in my clothes and it has only been 1 week.

I guess I am just worried about the "symptoms" and want to make sure that it isn't a warning sign that my deficit is too big.

Thanks!

Been doing this for over 10 years and have never heard a single mention of eyelashes. Could possibly be due to some kind of dietary deficiency but that is a wild guess.

Have you been taking your multi-vitamins?

What has your Body Fat Percentage changed?

Its not uncommon at all with eating disorders.

It can happen, I will admit I usually only have seen that with ED problems or just severe training/dieting down. Might just be you need to part take in refeeds/breaks more in general.

From what I am seen it is normal.

In general people respond differently to dieting down. It just varies. What you are looking for is the extreme and collection of issues. For example, I always no matter what get insomia and have to compensate but that is about it. Normal issues but nothing severe or life altering. It is when you start to collect a lot of issues or the issues get severe, that is when you need to take a step back.

IMO, just because you do have a history of pushing it a little too hard, make sure you take some refeed time if you start feeling to run down.

Question

Thank you so much for the response!

I wonder why this would occur in eating disorders? I am healthier than I have ever been but do have a history of ED?

I am so relieved that this is normal, at least the RMR part, the eyelash part is strange.

I have no trouble with sleeping My sleep efficiency is over 90% and I almost always get 8-9 hours of "true sleep".

I do take a multi, fish oil and calcium/D. So I am sure it isn't a deficiency.

Interesting note though, yesterday my burn was about 15% higher than Monday and I think it was a result of the strength training because that was the only thing I did differently.

The GoWearFit has really made an incredible difference in the way I view activity (from exercise to NEAT).

What I was planning on doing was a deficit of 750 Mon-Fri and then eat at maintenance on Sat and Sun?

This gives me an avg calorie intake of 1500-1600 (Mon-Fri).

Sat and Sun I would eat ~2300.

How does that sound?

It was either that or I was going to do a 4 day cycle where I would eat at a deficit for 3 days and then maintenance for one day and repeat.

Does it matter? I would prefer to have the weekend "off" but I also realize that my system is sensitive and I don't want to mess it up.

Thanks again!

Also, one quick note Leigh in response to the run-down question.

My energy is awesome I am certainly not dragging by any means. If anything, I feel better now than I ever have.

I wake up at 5 and feel good and then by 9 I am in bed and asleep within 10minutes.

By the way, I have a tea that is made locally, it is an herbal blend and it is for anxiety/insomnia. It is wonderful and I would be happy to mail you some if you would want to try it for when you have insomnia.

It is mild but effective and has helped me tremendously.

I don't think any of that sounds bad at all. Just be aware that the higher calorie intake lead to slow seen results. It isn't a bad thing, just can be lackluster for motivation.

A lot of people forget that with the Gowear that spans a 24 hour period of time.

So lets say you eat 1500 calories while awake. That is pretty much dead even with what you needed to function that day. Meaning your deficit is going to come mostly when you sleep. It isn't going to leave you feel thin or weighing that low.

In short that isn't a calorie level, even though the deficit is a good one, that is going to leave you having it fall off. The "fall off" zone for most is 1000+ from everything I have studied. I just mention this because I don't want pace to discourage, as it mostly does.

As far as health, again nothing stands out, it is an isolated thing. You state you are healthy, energy good, so I say go for it from what I have seen you listing here.
