Looks like bodybugg / sensewear has a new version of the small armband that is geared toward a lower pricepoint / consumers. It's the size of sensewear, but with a few less features (from what I can figure out). No wireless data upload, no food tracking... It's called GoWear Fit (gowearfit.com or bodymedia.com). Still has sweat sensor, 3-way accelerometer, pedometer, heat sensor like the Bugg (actually, a better accelerometer, but the new Bugg should have a 3-direction one in it).
So - Leigh / anyone - know anything about it? I'm about ready to try it - it's $159 and then $7/month for the subscription (if you commit to a year). It's USB rechargeable. I never use the food part of bodybugg's stuff, since I prefer Daily Plate. I did like wireless uploading, but you can buy the digital armband watch thingy if you want instant feedback...
I'll probably get it, but just curious if anyone else has seen/heard about it. The sensewear seems like it's come down quite a bit in price too, and bodybugg is due to release it's smaller version SOMETIME before the end of year but still no answer from them. Might make sense for someone like me who doesn't care about the food tracking parts and wants to save money???
Well, I was hoping someone had seen it, but from what I understand it's pretty new to the market. I bit the bullet (I have NO patience sometimes) and ordered it, so I'll be sure to report once I get it...
Still love to hear from Leigh or others if anyone HAS heard of it!
I'd definately like to hear what you think about it Bytsi also. My hubby would string me up by my ears if I bought something like that for myself right now. (Too close to Christmas).
Do you have the bodybugg? If so why do you want to try a new product? Are you unhappy with the bugg?
I can't say I have had personal experience with it. I have thus far now tested Polar's, Bodybuggs, Different Pedometers, and cheap watches. I will def put this on my list. It seems though to me that the only difference is the software and uploads which is not needed anyway.

So yeah seems like a MUCH cheaper alternative.
Of the ones you've tested so far, which one(s) do you think is/are the most accurate?
I HAD a Bugg, but after using it for 2 months I sold it on ebay (got pretty much all my money back, as I sold it right when Biggest Loser started and they did a big plug for it on their show). It was too big - that was the only reason I didn't keep wearing it - the size got to be annoying, once I had the basic info I needed.
However, I was more motivated to move, get my NEAT, etc, when I wore it. It's great feedback, so if I could have one a lot cheaper and SMALLER, I'm all for it!
Looking at this and sensewear, they're both made by bodymedia.
I think the sensewear is marketed more toward professional trainers, nutritionists, etc rather than to an individual interested in fitness--and it shows in the $$$$.
ETA: Yup, and I see upon re-reading Bytsi's first post that was already identified. Yay for reading comprehension, haha!
anyway, I might be interested, but i'm still finding overall that even that money is better spent on other things. heh. It does seem like good motivation, and therefore I'm not sure I'd find a way to get "on my ass all day" readings.
Arrrgh. Damn you Bytsi... another gadget to add to my collection.
LOL! I can't help it if I'm a tech addict...
So - it came today (FAST shipping!)
It's small - MUCH smaller than the Bugg. It goes on your left arm, and charges via computer / USB. I haven't put it on yet, cuz it's still charging, but I'm excited. So far it was easy to load onto the computer and it recognized it with no glitches. You can enter up to 3 days of food, just to get an idea of calories, but there's no daily tracking. Which is fine, as I said, since I don't use that feature and prefer Daily Plate.
Cool to hear the fast shipping... I got the email "congratulations! Your purchase has been approved!" today (well no shit. I paid with a credit card... it wasn't really on my radar that it would be declined, LOL), so if I got it before Thursday that would be fantastic!
I am wondering if it would work on a Windows XP SP1 machine. I guess I'll have to email them and see what they say. Supposedly, I'd need to flash my BIOS to upgrade to SP2... and I just don't want to risk that, we have too many short power failures around here. Besides, the computer is otherwise doing fine.
The down side for me is that these gadgets aren't waterproof... and I do a fair amount of pool workouts. Well, will be all eyes for further reporting on your new widget!
So one thing I like is that this version measures sleep time/duration (versus just lying down). However (wakeup call here) it thought I was sleeping for about an hour when I was watching the boob tube last night. Oopsie!!!!
For many people, sitting watching tv actually lowers their heartrate more than sleeping does.
As for sw compatibility, I have pretty much all I need/want. Things that tend to be windows only either have a mac competitor, or are silly niche things that I tend to only have passing interest in anyway. *shrug* There's not a derth of mac software as people would like to think…
I like the GoWear Fit and, assuming it's reliable and holds up, I recommend it as a cheaper and smaller alternative to the Bugg. Although Bugg reps still say their smaller version is due before end of year but have no date...
The graphs for activity and steps and sleep, etc are all good. 2 screen shots:
First is the main screen showing my activity (just like the Bugg has). You can also see the tabs - nutrition only lets you upload 3 "sample" days, not a full program like the Bugg had, but with so many free on the web, who cares!
Second pic is the drop-downs for steps and sleep - each arrow next to a category gives you more detailed info when you click on it. Steps shows when I got the steps in during the day, Sleep shows when I was lying down versus actually sleeping and my sleep efficiency... (and yes, this is the shot from yesterday when it thought I was sleeping in front of the boob tube)
Hope this helps anyone who is thinking about it. I can't say yet how the battery life is (recharges via USB) as I've only used it for 2 days, but I like the size a LOT better than the Bugg, and it gives me all the features I wanted and used from the Bugg for a much better price.
I am surprised the subscription is almost as much as the BodyBugg subscription, without the nutrition. I agree, though, with my Bugg I still prefer using my Fitday software for the tracking. And in my case, I got my Bugg at a discount and don't have to pay the subscription. But the GoWear Fit looks just like pictures I've seen of the new BodyBugg...do you think there is any difference? Rechargeable is very cool...I get really sick of buying batteries. BTW, Bytsi, nice calorie burning!
How long did the upload take? Is it just daily reports or do you also get some sort of a summary also?
Also isn't bodybugg made by the same company? If so the underlying technology would be the same just different features correct?
The upload takes just seconds. I don't know about a summary yet - haven't tried it! I tend to just look day by day at what I've burned, so there might be one. There is an export feature (to excel and some other program, I think)...
Yes, it's made by the same company, so it is very similiar - just different features for a different market.

The subscription with a 1-year committment is a little less than a year of the Bugg - $80 versus $99. But the initial investment of hardware is so much less... and I don't know what Bugg will charge for their new smaller version! I haven't seen pics of the new body bugg - the one I got looks just like the sensewear though...
I actually wasn't happy with the cal burn - if you can see the total, it was 1900 something - not even 2000 for the day. Meh.
I wasn't thinking that was a workout day--on my best work out day I am barely over 2000, closer to 1700 most other days I guess. I'm curious, too, what the new Bugg will cost. At my gym the old one was being cleared out at $100 during the month of October. I sold more in that month than ever. But it is the big ugly one (that I've been wearing for over a year). I'm thinking I'll probably get the new one when it comes out for advertisement purposes (and because it looks less like some kind of medical monitor)--assuming I get at least as good of a discount as I did on the first one.
