That's cool Bytsi ... I'll be interested to see what you think too Tina!
I love my Bugg ... but it is large. I'm sort of used to it now and don't notice it as much ... but it's winter and I'm wearing long sleeves at least! This summer when I got it, it was hard to wear out places because of how big it is and how it looked. I also don't use the food logging feature as it is too slow and cumbersome. I use a PC-based softward program called NutriBaseEZ.

i ordered one today!
i had one of the original sportbrains and found the device and the online community extremely motivating. i'm looking forward to being accountable again!
Cool Leigh - can't wait to hear how they compare. So far, it seems to think I burn a little less than the Bugg said - but that may actually be more accurate, especially with the 3-direction accelerometer in the new one.
I was very sad to see that on my couch-potato recover-from-a-cold day, when I did nothing but walk around the mall for a couple hours and SIT on my butt, it said I burned just over 1400 cals. Yuck!!!

can you give and example of the difference between in cals the BUGG said you burnt vs this product?

I haven't had the Bugg and Gowear at the same time, so there is no direct 100% comparison - just that I seemed to burn 1800-2200 with the Bugg (if memory serves) and it seems like I don't really hit that 2000 mark easily, according to the Gowear. Barely break 2k even on active days... Of course I'm a few pounds lighter (5-ish) if that matters?
The cool thing (Leigh will appreciate this) is the Bugg is worn on the right arm, Gowear on the left - so for comparison if you own both, you can easily wear both at the same time... I'm waiting for Leigh to post her own results of the comparison.
Tina - charged up and wearing it yet? What are your thoughts?

5 lbs could make a difference. I lost 6 and noticed I seem to burn at least 100 calories less.
I am VERY interested in this product, and am enjoying reading your updates about it.
I wanted to know tho, is it pretty self explanatory to use? I am VERY technically challenged, and I wont even tell you how long it took me to figure out an ipod So I was just wondering if this would be difficult for me to figure out, or is it pretty easy?
Also, I dont know anything about the Bodybugg, but you mentioned that this one, doesnt track food intake. I am tracking my food on thedailyplate, so how do I work that in with this gowearfit? Is that part pretty easy to do as well?
I love the price of this one, and I love that its small, but I want to make sure it will be something that I can figure out! Please let me know what you think.
Thank you

It's the size of sensewear, but with a few less features (from what I can figure out). No wireless data upload, no food tracking... It's called GoWear Fit (gowearfit.com or bodymedia.com). Still has sweat sensor, 3-way accelerometer, pedometer, heat sensor like the Bugg (actually, a better accelerometer, but the new Bugg should have a 3-direction one in it).
So - Leigh / anyone - know anything about it? I'm about ready to try it - it's $159 and then $7/month for the subscription (if you commit to a year). It's USB rechargeable. I never use the food part of bodybugg's stuff, since I prefer Daily Plate. I did like wireless uploading, but you can buy the digital armband watch thingy if you want instant feedback...
I'll probably get it, but just curious if anyone else has seen/heard about it. The sensewear seems like it's come down quite a bit in price too, and bodybugg is due to release it's smaller version SOMETIME before the end of year but still no answer from them. Might make sense for someone like me who doesn't care about the food tracking parts and wants to save money???
hi, meghan! i'll admit that i am a power user, but the whole process was pretty simple. i ordered mine from the site then followed the link to download the software. once downloaded, it was just a couple clicks to install it. then i had to wait for my monitor to arrive.
happily, it arrived today! i unpacked the box, popped the monitor out of its armband, plugged it into the included usb cord. i headed back to the site and launched the activity manager and it found and updated the monitor then opened the info screens (how many stpes, activity, etc.) sounds a bit complicated, but really very easy!
since it only arrived an hour ago, i haven't tried it out (it's charging), but i plan to wear it to bed tonight!

Meghan - it was easy and self-explanitory - I had no problems, but since I'm not afraid of tech (although no expert), I can't say if you'll have problems. I would think not though...
For food tracking - just keep using daily plate. I ignore the food part of their program, even if it was good I wouldn't use it. I figure out my total cals on daily plate, see my burn on GoWear site, and I can see if I ate or burned more... that's pretty basic math and I don't need to pay extra for a program to do 2000 minus 1500, ya know? LOL
Limitations
The study has several limitations. Firstly, the IDEEA (intelligent device for energy expenditure and activity) accurately estimates free living and physical activity energy expenditure, but the monitor does not detect arm movements well.(9) Energy expenditure may therefore have been underestimatedduring active gaming, which involves arm movements. The use of this system was supported by a recent method comparison study, however, which used the IDEEA as its criterion measure.(15)

i'm wondering if this is true of the bodybugg as well...
Thank you so much for the information, I cant wait to hear how you like it!

Thank you too, for your information! Yes, I think I can handle the adding or subtracting of the math from Dailyplate. Only thing is, I JUST started logging my foods (and weighing) last week. I have been gaining weight since July, but didnt really think i changed my eating or my workouts.
So I decided it was time to really be accoutable for my eating. And I am still not 100 percent in logging every single thing I eat. I am still taking bites here and there of my kids foods, which I know isnt helping me. At any rate, I guess if I was to get this product, I will really need to be 100% on my tracking my food, or else it really wouldnt work for me???

Yup burned 2700 yesterday (traveling and walking through airports as well as working all day and walking a couple-o-miles in the AM) but was only at 1400 today by 2pm ish, and I have been on my keister eating pretty much all day, so I'm THINKING perhaps a slight surplus occurred today. I like the size much better, very much easier to wear without people thinking you were on some sort of Holter monitor or something!
this product can't be shipped to those of us in canada
bummer!
i am finding it pretty comfortable. wore it most of the evening and to bed last night. it's definitely a motivator for me - i can feel it on my arm and i think "i need to get some steps in" - so it really was a good investment from that point of view. i want to go walk on the treadmill just to see what kind of data i'll generate. major geek - but whatever works!!

I think that it's two-fold. If you don't track your food, that's one less tool you have to work with, and you're handicapping yourself. Try tracking 100% of bites for ONE week, and then you can go from there once you are aware...
The more important part for me, personally, is what Karen touched upon: I am more AWARE of movement, don't want to download a lousy day, so I get up and move more. I want my graph to be full of big spikes of movement and not "flatline", so I move more. Similar things happen with food tracking, btw - you are aware that you're going to have to log it, so you don't eat as much crap .

Holy cow! That's some heavy duty calorie burning. I don't think I've ever gone that high. Maybe 2600 on a day that included heavy workout and shopping afterward. Even 1400 calories by 2 p.m. Nice! According to my Bug I burn about a calorie per minute when I'm sitting on my butt at work (and when I'm sleeping). On Tuesday when I was up at 4:00 a.m., at work by 6 a.m., worked both jobs and home by 9:30 I burned about 1700 calories for the day. Guess I need to find ways to get moving during my day job.

Yeah, I've had a few people ask me if I was wearing some kind of medical monitoring device and then there are the people who just look and are afraid to ask! Much better in the winter months when I can cover the Bug with long sleeves.
I was just wondering how everyone is liking their Go fits? How did last week go for you all?
I am still really wanting one, but financially I am not sure that I can justify buying one now. (or getting my husband to buy me one for Christmas) BUT, if I can hear some really good stories about it, I may be able to change hubbies mind
