Leigh's 30 Day Challenge-Official Challenge Thread
Did you see Leigh's latest blog post? She revealed her 30 Day Transformation Challengers (Congrats!) and sent out an open invitation to watch and join them. fficeffice" />
Just wondering-- who else will be joining in on the fun? I know there are other challenges going on but would anyone be interested in having a thread for this special event?
** By the way, I am a long time lurker(mostly). I’m a Personal Trainer near Detroit, MI. I really enjoy many of discussions here and have learned so much from all of the knowledgeable people who post here. Thanks!!
I plan on doing the challenge. I've been following Leigh's OPT program for the past 18 days and have lost 5 pounds so far. My compliance was good the first week (89%) but slipped the second (71%). I've been better this week, though - only 2 off-plan meals. Anyway, I'm going to continue dieting until Thanksgiving, then take a break that weekend when my family is in town, then, if necessary, go back to it until I lose whatever is left (I figure I have about 10 more to lose).
Where are you in the Detroit area? I'm originally from Warren but moved to Chicago a few years ago.
Hi Krispy1138,
Sounds like you are doing great and have a good plan! Nice job so far.
I'm thinking of starting a log on the Training Boards... see what I can do with myself in the next 30 days. I've never publicly posted a log before. May be interesting? Not sure, but I thought this 30 day challenge would be perfect timing.
I actually grew up in Warren--small world. I also have a really good friend that lives in Chicago now too. I was just there for the Perform Better Summit. What HS did you go to? I went to Tower, class of 98.
I'll be watching and cheering along. I would have been right in there with them but for this surprise pregnancy...no worries; I'll be on the losing train again in another few months.
GO PAULINE!!! I'm so excited for you and the other challengers! Are the other challengers over here, too? I'm thinking Mike and Jim might be...

My alma mater! I graduated in 1986, though - I'm an old lady.
The response has been fantastic. If interested I am announcing how the readers can play at midnight via blog. The 30 day challenge can be whatever you want it to be really BUT I do have a specific plan people can follow for 30 days and way to be held accountable and a little prize. Also there is going to be donations to St. judes.
It is all free, all for the readers, all for fun. No product, none of that, just people trying to inspire other people and some cheap prizes. Men/women come and look, have a good time, and lose some fat before you stuff yourself with turkey.
Yeah ... 1986 alumna does not make you OLD!! Didn't you know that 40 is the new 30?!?! (I'm also a 1986 graduate ... but not Warren)
Well, I'm older than all of you... I'm a 1983 graduate!
I'm psyched about the challenge... I started back on OPT this week and am feeling very positive about it! Makes me wish I had applied to take part in the challenge in the first place, but I definitely want to play along at home! Good luck Pauline, Karen and all of the other challengers!!
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
Is there anywhere that has any more details beyond the link above? I'm starting week 12 of OPT Monday, then you're supposed to take a least a week for a break, right? So would I be able to do this challenge or do I need to wait 'til next time?

I was really looking forward to doing the challenge, but I'm one of those people who needs a lot of variety in their diet, so there's no way I'd stick to a "one big meal diet". Plus, I committed myself to doing OPT until Thanksgiving and promised my husband my dieting wouldn't interfere with our lives too much, so it looks like I'll just be following along from the sidelines.

UNTIL Leigh tells me otherwise, I am planning on learning how to make "one big meal" but in the meantime I will prepare my 4-6 meals in the morning or the night before, and eat them 4-6 times as usual. What will be different that I will not "wing it" dinner/evening time; I will only eat what had been prepared (I will microwave it though). I will not do ESE. I will not cheat, and count those in to my fitday. For 30 days. This will take me through and past the Halloween candy bowls at work, which is a good thing.
I think if you want to play, krispy1138 and others, think outside the box and as long as you are following the rules it can be okay.
Who's to say 1 big lasagna is diff than
protein shake fruit; cottage cheese, vegies, chicken salad, soup turkey, steak, rice brocolli
If you mash all that up, I guess it could be a weird lasagna.
I just don't think you need to use "I don't want to make a lasagna" as an excuse not to play if you want to play.
I do plan to learn and see what I think about making 1 big meal for the day that I eat 4-5 times during the day.
And people should read all of the comments for that post on Leigh's blog, too--many of the questions have been answered by Leigh and by other members of the challenge.

I'm glad everyone clarified that it doesn't necessarily need to be a one-pot dish. I have planned my meals for this week, so it gives me some time to plan, plan, plan.

Hmm, it seems like there may be some issues with posting comments on Leigh's blog. I just posted a comment with the link to my journal and it is not showing up. I'm wondering if there's a 75 comment max or something.
Maybe all the comments have completely overwhelmed the blogging program, haha
So how do we join the challenge, or should we start our own thread? I think 30 days is perfect, short and sweet. Sometimes 12 weeks is too much to think about.

Your comments won't show up until "approved" so there is some time delay.

yeah same here. I didnt realize about the one big meal. I cant commit to that either...I need variety as well.
I do like the idea of intermittent fasting though, modified of course. Knowing this, Ive got an action plan, something I am pretty sure I can stick. My first meal would start at 12pm, so I would fast all morning, which would allow me to eat more at night, which tends to be my weak point anyhow. Also, I think fasting or eating very little on days I tend to overeat, like Saturdays is good too. That way I wont be too bad if I eat a bit too much at night when we go out.

I think that there may have been a glitch with the system because the number of comments posted and the actual showing up as how many comments had been posted were different. Also, I swear I saw a couple of comments disappear and then reappear a bit later.
In any case, I feel a little silly having even brought it up in this thread I just wanted to make sure the link to my journal showed up since my understanding is that to be counted in we have to post pictures.
getmovin, Leigh clarified the one big meal idea. You can do it with one big meal (like a chili or whatever) that you eat throughout the day or you could do your normal daily food--you just make it all at one time and then eat it throughout the day. Make sense? Check out today's blog post.
