I find that the air gets dryer as it gets cold here and I want even more water. But I also use a lot of nice warm tea, green and red and herbal.

LOVE the fake hot cocoa idea... I *will* have to try this!

It may help if you can eat a small meal before you go, so you won't be hungry. That's my trick to help me resist overdoing at parties.

Sorry Shari - if you see my log, I had an AWFUL screwed-up week with the scale bouncing around like crazy... but this morning I had my first-ever almost 3# drop and I'm back to where I should've been the whole week...

Hang in there and keep being consistent, even when it seems like that isn't working - it really is.

Shari - Do you need to step up your workouts maybe? The intensity? Have you been to sticking to your deficit?

Good luck! Don't let it get you down. I'm sure it's temporary. Keep drinking your water.

Sorry Shari... it's frustrating here too. I had a great result last Saturday, but my weight went up again immediately after and it has not been coming down quickly this week either. Worse, I feel a constantly gnawing hunger and I'm starting to wonder if my body is now going to just hang on to every bit of fat because of the low calorie level.

The hunger was so bad yesterday that I really strayed from my meal plan. I felt like I was getting SICK even though I'm not. But that's how crappy I feel on this calorie level, even including the modest refeed on Monday. And I still woke up with the same gnawing hunger today.

Today should be better, I'm not going to the gym and hopefully there will be no surprise anniversary chocolate appearing before me when I am at my weakest, lowest point! At least hubby (who'd been instructed to bring NO chocolate) only brought a very tiny 170 calorie Lindt 70% dark bar. Up until last night, I hadn't had dark chocolate in two months.

Shari & Cynthia , where are you in your cycle?
Now I eat at maintenance, it's really very interesting to see what the scale does just as a function of where I am in my cycle. Nearly regardless of what I eat it will go DOWN in the first 2 weeks and then BAM it will be UP 1 kg (again regardless of what I eat) 1-2 days before I ovulate (mostly CD17) , go down for a bit and then UP again towards TOM.
Used to always think it was due to calorie/carb intake and while that's another factor, hormonal influences are WAY more important. Now I know exactly at what day I ovulate, any hormonal wt gain is no longer a mystery.. I'd rather be very surprised when this wouldn't happen.

So.. hang in there girls and.. look at the rolling averages of like 2 weeks (if you can bear it, even 1 month!)

thanks guys

Joy- i am hitting that deficit...like i say my fitday journal doesnt always reflect my exact eats bc i use it mostly to calculate recipes, so some days it looks weird on the calories.. anyway yes i am im hungry

working out actually may be why im so hungry i have actually worked out more this week than last, 2 spin classes, 2 weight days and I lift HEAVY heavy ...NO PINK dumbells for me...lol

anyway not sure what it is

I am on day 17 of my cycle...if that how u calculate it ( i started my last period october 14th?)

I usually do notice 5 pound gain the week of my period but usually this time...who knows
anyway it doesnt make me want to give up, just a little upsetting..
i have had meals with alot more salt lately and carbs...like yesterday i had that turkey veggie chille all day...who knows

oh well until SATURDAY i will keep chugging along!

In terms of your hunger, I was hungry yesterday too. When I am hungry it's usually because I'm not eating enough healthy lean protein, like turkey, chicken, tuna steak, salmon... and I also those days try to load up the vegies (now counted)...

But Oprah said, "hunger is your hips screaming at you that they are disappearing!"

Remember, too, that it's the overall picture that you want to look at. You might have some up days (or even an up week), but that could be followed by a nice drop like Bytsi had this week. Try to step back from the daily trend and see what's going on for the week or even the month and see if the weight is in general following the downward trend.

I'm fighting a migrane again today for the 2nd time in less than a week, and everything that I would normally take is Category C for pregnancy. ugh. Does anybody have any 'safe' suggestions (aside from the dark room/quiet thing, which doesn't really help with my two little munchkins running around) for me?

I'm not sure what you can take, but I've found (if I catch it early) that Advil liqui gels are the best thing. Once you're past a certain point only the dark room/quiet will help, but here's the website:

Advil.com - Wyeth Consumer Healthcare

I do see this warning though....

If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professional before use. It is especially important not to use ibuprofen during the last 3 months of pregnancy unless definitely directed to do so by a doctor because it may cause problems in the unborn child or complications during delivery.

Thanks, Anne. Years of Advil (and other NSAIDS) for my arthritis has rendered most useless for me, but I'll keep that in mind. I know that I have to avoid aspirin, etc., in the 3rd trimester, especially with a c-section, so I'll keep thinking and hoping that I don't have any more migranes. lol I'll be talking to my doctor about it more on Monday.

Are your cycles regular in length? If so, you'd want to count back 14 days (or less) from the last cycle day to get to the estimated ovulation day. Right before is when I'm seeing the biggest & most unexpected wt jump. For a 28d cycle it would mostly happen on the 14th day, but that's not a rule..

Say 29 and then you'd have ovulated on day 15. Some have shorter luteal phases (like me) and in my case it would have happened on day 19.
Since a few years I can even feel it happening but I've been doing observations since 2 years and can pinpoint it exactly the very day and from then on... any wt gain or change in appetite was no longer a mystery. It's frigging awesome to know what's going on in your body.

OK, sorry I've been inundating the thread with my obsession.

OK, maybe that can explain why the scale is up from yesterday! I can't figure it out. I didn't do anything different. I stayed withn calorie range and drank a gallon and a half of water. I don't think it's sodium because the level hasn't been that much for the past week. Hmmm. Hormones...

Try to weigh every single day for several months while you're not doing and plot it against your cycle days. You might be in for a surprise .. neary everyone 'knows' about water retention pre-TOM but not everyone is aware about mid-cycle gains.. now, several of us never see that happening so it is very individual.
Even apart from this , it just pays off to track daily weight changes for several months and see what causes a spike and what not. Salt doesn't for me, not even tons of salt. But give me fiber , esp. beans etc. and I'll blow up. Gluten does the same.. just don't eat much of it anymore..

Thumbs up Happy Halloween!

Hello! Hope everyone has a great day and doesn't get tempted by too many treats!

I haven't been posting, but have been sticking to my OBM challenge. Last night I was sooo hungry. Ate an extra boiled egg before bed. I hope I have my Daily Needed Calories dialed in right. The weight I packed on during my "bulk phase" after losing too much weight from being sick last May is slowly coming back off. DH won't be here to take my pics tomorrow, so I will just take a front and side shot and will post the back picture by Sunday night.

Have a great day!

You know I just read the most unbelievable confession the other day.. and laughed SOOOO hard, I just couldn't take it anymore.

Quote:
It was about someone who said this after the comment came about how a teenager of say 15-16 yrs was told she was too old for trick or treat!

Hey, you tell that girl that I trick or treated until I was was 28 years old.
It PAYS TO BE SHORT.
Even my sister and I went out when she was 9 months pregnant.
We went as ghosts!
So, if you would have wanted and are short & look very young, you can continue doing so until say age 25! And then again when you're a mom of course!

I remember being told while trick-or-treating as a kid, that I was too old - just because I was tall! Some people just assumed age by height. arrgghhh

Few notes...

-My pillow case was stuffed on Halloween, no tiny orange buckets for me!
-Scale weight is NOT everything.
-It has been 2 weeks guys and if you have made even a few pounds change and some inches lost then that is not on fantastic, it is beyond what most do in months.

Keep it up, can't wait for the update tomorrow! Drive it home tonight!

Hah! I like that! Well, let's hope my hips ARE disappearing... because if I could pick one place to spot reduce, that would be IT!

I'll try to keep hanging in there. Massive headaches though and it's got to be the low calories, because I normally don't get headaches much. This is worse than when I was doing lean n' green for a couple weeks.

No trick or treating for me tonight, LOL! Honestly, around here, not even the kids are that keen to trek up and down our hill in the cold. And it's damp out today as well. Last year I think I had a total of five kids come by... and tons of leftover candy!

Gonna be Scroogish this year and just keep the porch light off and not bring candy in the house. Besides, if things go as per normal since I started this really low calorie gig, I'll be amongst the living dead anyway by this evening! Gym day!

BOO!

Happy Halloween!!! I am staying AWAY from candy. I did make some sweet potato muffins though and they're soooooo good.

I'm a bit bloated today. Everyone seems to be right now it sounds like. Hopefully I can get it down for my weigh in on Sunday. But like Leigh said in her post, during the 2nd week you might not see as much change. Lets not get discouraged!!
