Default Thighs/quads feel weak

I'm doing REPAIR. For months my thighs have really felt weak and achy, even before I started REPAIR.

Are there a couple of exercises I can add besides lunges and squats to strengthen my thighs? Or perhaps a few more weeks of the lunges and squats will help... I've only just resumed them.

thanks,

You have a pretty severe ankle issue going on. I would think this is likely your biggest problem overall. Looking at your pictures your calves were so tight you could bounce quarters off of them. In short your muscle imbalances are pretty intense. To be honest I feel you would best benefit from specific programming. Remember this stuff, what I have written, it is generic. It is to be a "one size fits as many as possible" but sometimes that just isn't "you."

I would look into contacting Julie Keen for some PT work. If she isn't available I am sure she would have a great recommendation.

If I may get "personal" for a moment.

I have been following your progress and your journey. Let me preface this by saying I think you are a very sweet and fantastic person and that this comes from a very warm place. I think you would, and this is personal opinion only, be better served after finishing your re-feed/repair do better getting some one-on-one education and programing for your specific needs. I worry about you getting injured or/and a generalized program not being the right fit for you. I also feel that you would best advance to your goals in strength and fat loss having a little more ability to have questions answered in more length and more specific towards you.

I am not saying you have to hire the most expensive trainer in the world, but perhaps a "tutor" for training almost. I don't know if Julie would also be available for this (not trying to nominate you Julie, just know you have helped other in the past) but again she is fantastic. I have a stock of "recommends" if you will in my catalog depending on means, goals, detail, etc. When the time comes, if you go that route, would be more than willing to throw out some suggestions.

In the meantime I will still do the best I can to answer questions for you, I just wanted to express though that I think for you to really hit that information sweet spot for body and mind, since you have some more technical and injury issues, you may need to consult with people on a bit of a more personal level.

Etana, I did get your email, but wanted to respond here ... I have a full evening home alone with the kids as my hubby is out for the evening. I will have time to formulate an answer to you tomorrow morning.

Etana have you had your thyroid checked? muscle aches/weakness particularly in the lower body can be a sign of hypothyroidism. It is very common diagnosis in women as we age. Could also be due to lots of other things like Leigh mentioned but might be worthwhile next time you are at the doctors if you have not already done so.

Thanks. About 4 years ago I was concerned with slow metabolism and went to endocrinologist and was diagnosed normal. Right before I came here and read FLTS, I was going again in the direction of Thyroid, but currently I am following Leigh's philosophy that I am glad if it is my fault. I believe my thighs feel better when I move and exercise. I think the past 6 weeks of REPAIR and a few weeks before that of no activity have brought on this quad weakness. That's why I asked for a couple of additional quad exercises...

I will bring it up with my physician, however, based on your comments.
thanks,
