I have been doing the OPT program for 10 weeks but need to cut it short b/c I am preggers. My goal was to lose as much bodyfat as possible and learn how to control my weight before getting pregnant again.
I love FLTS and the OPT program---the book and the program have really helped me to meet my goals. I know from Sinead's thread that I now should eat at maintenance or a little above but my question is about training. I would like to lift weights through the pregnancy to maintain as much lean muscle mass as possible. Before doing OPT I was doing full body wt. lifting workouts and building muscle, then I switched to OPT and have maintained.
For my goal of having a healthy pregnancy and setting myself up for healthy postpartum...should I go back to the full body wt. workouts? Or do the OPT exercises give me the same strength as lifting heavier on machines?
Since I was relatively new to strength training, I am still unsure of the best weight workouts to do to build and or maintain muscle but also keep it safe. Anyone else lift during pregnancy or want to refer me to another forum or something? I just want to avoid losing as much muscle as I did the first pregnancy when I did cardio but no strength training.
I have no advice here, but I'm sure that someone else with more knowledge will chime in. I think you should be able to keep following OPT (though you might have to do some modifications on some of the exercises).

congrats! I know many women who have continued to lift during pregnancy but one person I know was told not to based on her personal situation so always best to check with your doctor.
I'm so happy for all you mommies to be and at the same time so happy my time for babies is past. What is it they say...there's a season for everything....

Training and pregnancy are actually a pretty complicated subject. It isn't something I could dive into with just one post. I will say that training during and for a short time after should be very specific to ensure your health and the health of the baby.
This site, while not necessary up to date on the best or training and nutrition in general, is certainly a place to start and I don't see anything off the bat that will HURT you. At the very least they cover the training dangers/safety. I didn't realize how little there was that is available on this subject that isn't crap, so this is something I will try and write about in the future.
ha ha ha! I was planning this one so there is no mystery here. I said it wasn't contagious the last time but then 4 of my cohort members in grad school got pregnant also.

Exactly! I learned this in my first pregnancy. It is hard to get specific information b/c everyone has such a different pregnancy. But since I am reasonably in shape and not overweight I should be able to get some good training tips. Will keep hunting and thanks for the website. I already the exercises by pregnant Gabby Reese.
Everyone that I know on the O2 Web site who was/is pregnant cleared it with their doctors and didn't overdo it.

I will await this anxiously!
