I got the shocker of all shockers this morning with a positive pregnancy test. Ok, so maybe it's what I thought would happen, but it shouldn't have happened (based on general timing) and we totally weren't trying. I think hubby will be just as shocked--hopefully ok with it but will most definitely shocked.
So...now what? I can't keep eating at a deficit, can I? That's all I've been doing--no crazy workouts, just a big deficit and lots of NEAT.
Holy cow. I'm still in shock.

Congrats. I know nothing about it, however, I remember watching a show once and the point was made that if you were heavier during a pregnancy you should attempt to gain less than someone lighter.

Anne, that's right. Of course, when I was pregnant with Katie (who's almost 2), I actually lost weight during the pregnancy. The doctor thought I was hypothyroid because of it.
man. this is weird. i still can't get my head around it.

Congratulations!!! Someone else will have to comment on how much of a deficit is reccommended/safe (if any) while preggers, but I know exercise is ok in general, and certainly even if you should go back to eating at maintenance, you can certainly use what you've learn to eat _healthy_ calories, rather than junky ones...

Thanks, everyone! I talked to Leigh and she confirmed what I pretty much knew--eat at maintenance or even a little higher. I'll see how my body goes and see what I need to do. I'm going to focus on keeping my food fairly healthy and on trying to get the proper portion sizes. I'm glad that I'm already in the habit of doing that, so this shouldn't be much harder.

Eating at maintenance is the best thing to do.. I hope you're not suffering too much from morning sickness like nutbar. Were you last time, since you lost wt?
oh, he handled totally in stride. He was surprised and excited. A bit freaked out about the money--more of that to come, I'm certain--but excited as well. I picked a great guy.

I know, isn't that funny, Julie? Do you remember Paula (who ended up having triplets)? She's 6 months pregnant with a surprise (thanks to Metformin) baby.

Hey, welcome to the world of three kids! I found my third (and last) pregnancy to be totally enjoyable. My third was a breeze, lots of moms with three agree--much more relaxed. Congrats!
In my other careers I worked with a lot of pregnant moms--I knew a few, who had weight to lose, who lost during pregnancy (not necessarily intentionally). Just make sure your food is nutritionally dense and you will do great.
I wish I knew as much as I do now when I was pregnant--I just ate everything in sight. Just this week I put my wedding ring on for the first time in 15 years--when I was pg with my first. You won't have that problem!
Oh congrats Sinead!!!!!!! Parenting 3's no different honestly. It's the leap from 1 to 2 that's the hardest. Everything past that is just more of the same. In the first trimester you don't have to worry about eating 500 extra calories or whatnot just not a deficit. In fact all my midwives are fine with slow steady weight loss in the first couple months if your diet is great with loads of healthy fats. But I would eat at maintenance, exercise the same as you have been (or just a good NEAT) and be a happy pregnant lady. Hooray!!
