Default calorie tracking for ready to eat chicken

I got a blackened chicken breast from Whole Foods this morning to put on greens for lunch. But now that I go to enter it for daily calories the only options in calorie count are like, "Shoneys Blackened Chicken" with 850 cals and 35 g. of fat. I usually get a plain chicken breast from WF but got the blackened this morning but does that mean I just ate a crap load of cals and fat?? The ingredient list only says : chicken, cajun spice (lists spices) and it didn't seem greasy. It was obviously a skinless chicken breast with seasoning rub but not sure of oil etc.

Any suggestions on how to track it? I know it is ideal for me to cook the chicken at home and bring it to work but didn't do that today.

If there is an ingredient list and it doesn't list oil (or some type of fat) then you're probably okay treating it as something you've made yourself. What it might have is more sodium than you're used to.

Are you using Fitday? I'd just pick a chicken breast cooked without fat. Whether it's blackened or baked or broiled shouldn't make much difference in the calorie count.

Exactly....you're thinking this through too much. It's just chicken.

well, I guess at least I am thinking too much rather than thinking too little since that is what I used to do. I have always used calorie count online to track calories, but sometimes it sounds like Fitday is more robust. thanks for the feedback. It couldn't have been too fattening since I was hungry 2.5 hours later instead of 5 hours which is what usually happens if I eat something high cal/high fat. thanks!

Just keep in mind that most blackened meat dishes have a lot of fat in them typically (ie when you order blackened salmon in a restaurant, they use lots of butter/oil).

I make "blackened" meat at home a lot and just use a cajun rub before I grill it. Adds negligible calories as it is just a spice rub.
