Default foam roll stretching in OPT

Hey OPTers,

In the stretching exercises when foam rolling is called for I assume that the stretches are dynamic and we should be rolling that roller underneath the muscle....is that correct? I mainly ask b/c of the IT foam roll stretch and hip flexor. I always feel pretty awkward trying to roll it under the IT band....like I'm scooching around. Just want to make sure i'm doing these right.

you place your body weight on top of the roller and move your body back and forth if that makes any sense. it hurts so good!

this is excellent!! thank you. It makes sense that you put the pressure on your muscle onto the roller and stay there until it releases before rolling. I love the rolling stretches and will get a roller for home. thanks missjane!

Those hurt. I found out I have IT Band syndrome so my trainer used those today.

Dicks has some less than optimal ones (GoFit brand). They're short and I can't speak to the density, but they'd work in the short term at least.

Good. I'm gonna go there today and pick one up. Which size did you get?

I found an 18" at Target last week for about $23 (with dvd). I'm so loving the foam roller!

You'll laugh but I use a thick pool noodle- the one that's exactly the size of a foam roller - and it works just fine! It saved my poor knees last year when I was prepping for a full mara. The density is right, and you can pick the craziest color. Got it for $5 on sale in toys r us.
