Default Consider me REPAIRed

Yesterday I finished the REPAIR program outlined in Leigh's Metabolic Repair Manual. I've babbled about it quite a bit in my log, but thought I would say something about my experience in the new forum.

I started off REPAIR in recovery from an eating disorder. (Compulsive exercise or exercise bulimia, whatever you want to call it.) I was freezing cold all the time, constipated, exhausted, got headaches, couldn't concentrate, had zero libido, amenorrhea, had problems staying asleep, and was basically a mess, physically. I did shots of Pepto Bismol like it was tequila.

The idea of resting for four weeks was really hard to wrap my head around. In the end, I gave in because of the amenorrhea. I read the book from beginning to end multiple times and started to understand why rest would be good for my "sexy hormones."

It was the best thing that I could've done. I felt better within a week, and kept getting better as time went on. I also am now free from the idea that if I miss a workout, I am instantly going to balloon up like that kid in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Almost all of things I mentioned above have been "fixed" in the last eight weeks. I'm no longer cold all the time, my digestion has massively improved, I'm off prescription sleep meds, no more headaches and dizziness, and the concentration problems are gone. I feel great.

Anyway, I just wanted to throw that out there for anyone thinking of trying REPAIR who is nervous about the resting part. It's worth it. I feel like I have my life back. Thanks Leigh.

That is amazing and you are really lucky that things have come back to normal so quickly. My menstrual problems took 6 yrs to resolve after my ED (anorexia). I know we talk so much here about losing weight, body recomp etc but feeling good mentally and physically is what REALLY matters the most.

Hey Martha....that's great! Very cool that you took the time off. I think that one of the best things I learned from Leigh is the less is more approach to training. I am doing less now that I have done in a LONG time and I'm leaner and feeling terrific. Who woulda thunk, huh?

Marty you are freaking awesome. I will likely be point hundreds of women you way going "SEE, SEE, be cool like her!"

Thank you for being an inspiration to so many and putting the info out there like you have. It should be the FAQ for Repair.

Wow, that list of symptoms is, well, impressive, if one can say that. (disturbing?).

It's great to hear of such a change. Outstanding for you!

Hey Jill! Seriously - I've always tried to kill myself in the gym. It's crazy to get better results by taking it easier.

Hi Lara! I am lucky. The menstrual stuff isn't totally resolved yet, but hopefully soon. Everything else bounced back very quickly though!
