Default Anyone have/tried PB2?

i'm currently using Skippy's Natural Creamy PB (soo good) but I read on Leigh's site about the PB2. I placed an order and just wanted to get some feedback on it. I'm a little usure of the meauring, considering it's a powder that you add water to.

Definitely rethink the Skippy "natural" peanut butter. It has added sugar in it and palm oil (that's why you don't have to stir it). Good Peanut Butter doesn't need added sugar.

OMG I sound like I'm eating it everyday...hahaha!

I'm definitely not, but it is my favorite so it's what I have. I know it has those things added in, but if it fits into my calorie intake, then I don't see why not.

What's so bad about the palm oil? I understand the sugar thing, but what is it about palm oil that's bad?

It's high in saturated fat which if you are at risk for heart disease can be a problem and the palm process is wreaking environmental havoc.

I tried PB2 and was not impressed at all. It basically takes out all the "good" i.e. good fats from peanut butter and you are left with a lower calorie but less healthy product. They might even add in sugar. I seem to recall a sweet taste.

If real peanut butter fits in your calorie budget then by all means eat the real thing. Much more satisfying and nutritious. Buy the natural kind that is just peanuts and salt.

iirc, though I certainly could be high, peanut oil isn't like the best oil for you. not bad, just…eh *shrug* I've not tried PB2, but from what I hear the part about it that tends to be great is making shakes with it without having all the extra fat cals (and therefore you can sub in something else, or forgo it all together). I doubt I'd try making peanut butter to replace "real" peanut butter with it, but I like the idea of being able to make shakes with it and not have the excess cals.

There's a big difference between the different types of Natty PB. I don't care for Laura Scudders at all, but I like the Local Grocery store's chain much better.

OMG… trader joes has some awsym pb. Has extra oil in it I think. If you let it sit out, it doesn't separate, but it becomes really thin an you can literally just pour it out of the jar. In the fridge it thickens up to "normal" pb consistency (like Jif or whatever) and then you can spread it. Da BOMB! Just drizzle that stuff over some apples… mmmmm.

I hate the meaningless term natural. There's truly natural peanut butter and then there's "natural" peanut butter. They should have to put it in quotes like that.

I remember when I was a little girl and the first time my mother bought Laura Scudder's instead of Skippy. One bite and I couldn't go back to the fake crap. I still buy LS.

yup, natural is used so incorrectly many times. My Whole Foods has the "grind your own" peanut butter. Another local gourmet/health food store has grind your own peanut, almond, and cashew butter. That is the bomb.

Yeah, we have a Winco that has the grind your own peanuts and almonds. So far I've done the almond. I love it. Waiting until my PB jar is empty to grind my own peanuts.

I LOVE peanut butter. Part of me wants to try PB2 and part of me is scared. I mean I already have issues with the fact that I use processed protein powder. I try and stay away from the processed food when I can. So defatted powdered peanut butter kind of scares me. BUT at the same time I LOVE peanut butter and the idea of putting it in a shake and saving calories appeals to me.

Can you only get it ordering it through that site? I can't go buying 4 at a time

We're going through our 2nd jar of PB2 at the moment. It's fantastic for adding to shakes. I've never used it for anything else. It's only about 25 calories per tablespoon and adds an immense amount of PB flavor to shakes. Love it. Hy-Vee sells it (along with a ton of Walden Farms calorie-free stuff) so if you have one near you, check it out.

I grew up on Adam's peanut butter (Ingredients: peanuts) and have only had Jif once or twice in my life (my best friend in grade school had it at her house). It was like peanut-flavored shortening. How can anything containing ingredients other than peanuts & salt be considered "natural"?

Costco has great prices on peanut & almond butters. I got a 26oz jar of almond butter for $7.59 and danced in the aisle.

I like the non-sugary taste and the little crunch of the flaxseeds in Naturally More. They sell it online and at Vitamin Cottage in my area.

Yes, I know that whole flaxseeds don't do a person much good. Still, they're crunchy!

Costco has that super smooth organic peanut butter that we used to use. Now we get a big ole tub from our mom and pop HFS that is just peanuts.

Ok, I confess, I am a "Jif" kind of person. My mom was into natural PB but I wanted to be like the other kids and hated the real stuff . When I read Leigh's blog about PB2, it sounded gross - but I LOVE my PB shakes - I might finally give in and try it if I can get my PB flavored shake for 25 kcal instead of nearly 200!!

I love my PB2. Nothing to be scared about, very safe and very healthy.

As for solo peanut butter I also use naturally more myself.

I will say PB2 for just peanut butter...loses.

However, mix it with cottage cheese, yogurt, pudding, shakes, cream cheese, or with regular peanut butter and water to make more and it is banging.

I must have 30 different PB2 recipes. I am always in stock.

What do you think natural means?

I am interested in a definition of natural that includes ground peanuts with salt but excludes palm oil and sugar. This definition won't bear any resemblence to the actual definition of the word, but I am interested in it nonetheless.

I'm now really interested in this stuff. Anyone found a good way to use it as a spread, say on a waffle for a snack? I love the Kashi Go Lean waffles with natty PB and Jelly, but it's a lot of calories to spend now that I'm in a deficit. I'd love some recipes or ideas!

I think natural in this context implies a food that retains the properties that nature gave it. A peanut is a peanut whether it is whole, chopped or ground into butter. Once it has been processed by removing the natural peanut oil and replacing it with palm oil and sugar (also highly processed), then it is no longer the same peanut that came off that peanut plant.

But in truth it is just a marketing term to make people feel like they are eating something wholesome and healthy. I'm not saying the processed peanut butter is bad for you...but to me it doesn't taste as good...so what's the point?

On the other hand, the PB2 product serves a purpose in that it allows one to incorporate more of that that peanutty goodness into one's diet without the extra fat and calories. I look forward to trying it.

It gets a best spread type consistency when you mix it with fat free cream cheese and splenda (to give the cream cheese a bit more sweetness) and saves a ton on calories and you get a lot of protein.

When looking for peanut butters, I check the ingredients... If it says Peanuts (and just peanuts) then I buy it. Wegmans (our regional chain which sounds like it's comparable to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods) kind of did a bait and switch - I used to buy their organic natural peanut butter, til recently when I saw they'd added some stuff to the ingredient list. Their natural creamy pb is what I buy now. (And yes, I've thought of buying a bag of peanuts and running it through the food processor to see what I come out with.)

You can easily make your own peanut butter in a blender or food processor. Probably more expensive that way. But I've done it for fun.
