Let’s face it, both of these supplements have their bads and goods, but if you had to pick from the two which would be the better choice, and why? After researching both supplements I am completely torn. On one hand we have a super highly effective drug for fat loss that has been banned by the FDA, and on the other we have one that seems to be effective under the right conditions but hasn’t really been talked about all that much.

As a side note: Normally I drink one 8oz cup of regular black coffee every morning along with 200mg of Green Tea extract.

Through my research here’s what I have found:

Ephedrine:
Pro’s: Taking ephedrine capsules along with caffeine increses performance in short-burst and endurance activities. It is widely known and promoted as a weight-loss aide, that improves strength and stamina in athletes. The products containing Ephedrine have been used by millions of people for more than 5,000 years without incident. It has been shown to treat the afflictions of the lungs, and reduce the effects of bronchial asthma (Which I have!). In addition to the above I have taken Ephedrine (Xendrine) in the past and saw incrediable results. I was only injesting 1/3 of the recommended dose at the time.

Con’s: Heart problems, high blood pressure, seizures, strokes, and deaths have been linked to ephedrine supplements and the ephedrine-caffeine combination. Ephedrine although well known, is not widely available due to the repercussions of the ban. Green Tea and caffeine products should be avoided while taking Ephedrine.

Yohimbine:
Pro’s – Yohimbe is a natural supplement that comes from the bark of a tree that grows primarily in West Africa. It's not an essential nutrient; therefore, one cannot be "deficient." It is generally low in cost and shown to be a highly effective fat burner when taken correctly. It does not need to be taken with food, just one full glass of water three times a day.

Con’s - Tyramine is a substance contained in foods such as cheese, liver, and red wine. These foods should not be consumed while taking Yohimbine. Yohimbine may cause dizziness or hallucinations and should not be taken while driving or operating heavy machinery. It can increase the amount of blood that is allowed to flow into the penis and prevents blood from flowing out. Other side effects include: dizziness, anxiety, irritability, or nervousness, tremor (shaking), headache, or skin flushing.

Do you have any idea how much, and how often, ephedrine would need to be consumed to cause the negative side effects? Yesterday I used ephedrine/caffeine and I really liked it. It made HIIT probably half as hard as it normally was, but I was wondering at what point this combo would become detrimental to my health. I'm under the impression that the people who experienced health problems as a result of Ephedra use were fat housewife types who were using entirely too much, is this impression flawed?

The mention of ephedrine reminded of this. Is the ban on Ephedra products lifted now? I thought that the lift on the ban only applied to Utah, but today I went to the new supplement/nutrition store across the street and they were selling two different products with Ephedra as the main ingredient. They were also selling ephedrine HCL as a stimulant and not a bronchodilator like at the gas stations, which I thought was currently illegal.

Oh yeah, ephedrine seems like an excellent pre w/o stimulant, and is definitely worth it in terms of price. If you are going for fat loss I would also recommend Hot-Rox, I've used them several times in the past with good results. They kept my energy up pretty much killed my appetite.

Honestly, I think ephedrine is the better choice. Im not taking anything right now because me and the wifey are trying to make babies, so Im taking a mulit, some fish caps and thats it. Stacking 25mg of (pure ephedrine) and 200 mg of caffeine is probably your best bet. Ive tried yohimbe before and really didnt like it much...didnt really agree with my body at all..and now, I read something about certain kinds of yohimbe (bark or something) that is not good for you at all.

So that's - Ephedrine: 2, and Yohimbine: 0.

I need more feedback from everyone on these products, anything you can tell me with be of great help. I really had a hard time finding information on Yohimbine.

One other question I have is about the pre workout dose of either supplement. I workout later in the day (5:30ish) and have somewhat of a hard time sleeping sometimes. I would rather not disrupt the sleep that I am getting with one of these supplements, would consumption of either of these at this time of day disrupt sleep closer to 10:00pm?

Ephedrine screws up my sleep patterns if I take it later in the day. My past couple of workouts have been at around 7, and the ephedrine definitely kept me up later than I would have liked. Last night I only got 2.5 hours of sleep before snowboarding (more ephedrine solved that until about 4 o'clock...). My experience so far has been that it will keep you awake, but the peak of the stimulation wears off after about 3 hours.

So would I be better taking ephedrine at around 3pm if I workout at 5pm? Would I still gain the benifits?

When taking ephedrine before I would pop one pill in the morning and shed pounds like you wouldn't believe. Would I be okay just taking this in the am?
