More evidence that we need to keep our fats balanced.
This study showed that rats responded well to increased omega-3's in their diet by becoming more insulin sensitive. The study gave a bunch of rats insulin resistance by feeding them a high-sugar diet. Insulin resistance leads to fat storage, diabetes, and heart disease.
Then they divided the rats into different groups and fed them differing ratios of omega-6's to omega-3's. The ones that had lots of omega-6's at the expense of omega-3's (210 to 1 ratio) maintained insulin resistance, while the ones who were fed a more balanced ratio of omega-6's to omega-3's (5 to 1) showed increased insulin sensitivity (being able to deal with insulin more effectively).

So basically stock up on fish oil to balance out the other fats.

True - but we also need to consciously reduce omega-6's (corn oil, fatty farmed meats, etc), to get an acceptable ratio, and to avoid throwing a bunch of extra calories on top of what we're already eating.

I've actually never had Udo's Oil, although I hear it's great. I get my plant-based omega 3's from milled flax seeds, which ain't all that bad. Although the majority of my o-3's come from fish.

JOHNKA I also mill (partially) my flax seeds, in a coffee grinder. But don't really know how much I should eat, and does it loose it's Oméga3s if cooked?
I eat sardines and other fish also..

Marykaa, I've read that the omega-3's in flax keep their nutrition when they are cooked, unless the temperature is extremely high (over 450 F).

I have an oil "sprinkler" for the olive oil.. excellent for not using too much while cooking or for sprinkling good quality olive oil on things like dried tomatoes.. add a few capers and a side order of Alfalfa srouts.. and I'm a happy camper : )
JOHNKA thanks for the info
